YES.

In the time of $1.29 a gallon gas, I blithely drove Jeep Grand Cherokees even though I drive 35,000 miles a year for work and make 100 mile trips to chase trout on the weekend.

Once gas hit $3.00 a gallon I had it with $600 a month in fuel costs. I sold my Jeep and got a VW Golf. It's awesome on gas. I save at least $300 a month. I miss the Jeep but if I am going to have a 2nd car someday, I'd rather have a convertible. :D

Speaking of record oil company profits, I'd be pretty upset about those earnings reports, but our government did a "thorough investigation" and found they weren't "excessive"...... :o

I feel so much better now.....

I can't wait until Her Royal Highness is coronated next January. Gas will then go down to about .80 cents per gallon.

well, she SAID so, and we ALL know she never lies, right?

Let me play devil's advocate here. I read last week that ExxonMobil had something in the vicinity of $400 billion in revenue last year. $40 billion of that was profit. What happened to the other $360 billion? Probably mundane things. You know - salaries and benefits for thousands of employees; exploration for new sources of oil (it costs billions to find potential sources of oil, develop the field and extract the crude oil); transporting it (I don't think they get it right under the storage tanks at my local gas station); taxes (that's right, corporations pay taxes too). They made a lot of money. But they put a lot more back into the economy. Isn't that how things are supposed to work?

Well - I'm sure she will win since Ann Coulter(geist) said she would campaign for Hillary if McCain gets the Republican nomination! That I would love to see - but I won't hold my breath!

I will be voting for Obama at the Maine Caucuses this Sunday. As will my 18 year old daughter - thank God I raised her right on something besides being a Parrothead.
Oh - this is a topic about the cost of oil? Well - I got my oil bill for my house . $ 621 for 26 days !!! OUCH!!!
I do drive a Honda Accord that gets 34 MPG - that helps but we do need to keep warm and have hot water.
Oh well - it could be worse - my Cobra ran out last month and I now have a private health insurance policy for my family and the premium is only $ 1197/ month with a $ 5000 deductible.
But - hey - we don't need to reform the health insurance policy - don't want to upset the people that REALLY run this country - BIG BUSINESS!

I think nearly ALL of them would, and it's been that way since elections began, but, really! How stupid does she think people are?!?
She stated that the price of gasoline at the pump would come down the day she takes office. I don't think ANYBODY, whether they're a kool aid drinker of hers or someone who feels about her as I do, believes a word of that.
Would I love to see it? YOU BET!
But we all know it'll never happen.

I'm thinking she was kidding-a lot of people have made that statement-they'd vote for Obama or Hillary if McCain gets the nomination, but, I've also heard Democrats say they'd vote for McCain if Hillary gets the nomination.
Makes you wonder, right?

God Bless you daughter.
And tell her this life long Republican (who HAS voted for some Democrats in the past) actually caucused for Obama in the HAWKEYE CAWK-EYE last month. No, I won't vote for him in the general election, but I think we can ALL be impressed and inspired at how he's been taking the high road through all her vitriol.

I really feel for the people in the Northeast. Home heating oil always has been WAY out of sight. It's pretty pathetic when people have to be uncomfortable in their own homes.
And my wife had a Honda Accord before we bought the Grand Cherokee. She loved it and so did I.
We're thinking our next vehicle will be a Honda Ridgeline.

Big business always has and always will run the country.
It would be nice if Lumir and Bertha down at the corner bakery were running the show, but it ain't happening. I wish it were the case, but it isn't. Then again, big businesses do employ lots of people.

In the month I have had it I have saved more in gas vs. the van than my monthly payment. $250 vs. $220.
:o :o :o :D

Wow, that's amazing! We just purchased a Yaris for our daughter as a gift......gas mileage was her #1 priority in the model she selected. We only limited her in the bottom line price and a couple of safety features. I was pretty pleased with the practicality of her choice.

We live kinda sorta out in the country (about 20 miles round trip) and I drive an SUV but try to limit my trips "into town". I used to make a run whenever. Now I plan things out to run my errands more efficiently with fewer trips. Hubby's company pays all vehicle related expenses so we tend to use his vehicle more than we used to.

All very true.....

But I seem to remember the oil barons saying things like "once gasoline hits $2/gallon it may be feasible to examine extracting the more difficult oil reserves, like the sand/oil deposits in western Canada which may exceed the Middle East in potential reserves". With gas now at $3/gallon all I hear in the news is "the strain on Middle Eastern reserves due to higher demand, particularly in China & India". And we still don't have new refineries on the drawing board even if "more oil" is suddenly found.

Bottom line, we needed a new energy policy in the 1970s and we still don't have one in 2008.

Fin Truck- 1997 F-250 Crew 4x4= 8 MPG: fun and comfortable to drive, gets less then 3000 miles per year, only used for fun stuff, but rarely used because of gas prices.

2001 ranger= 23 MPG, sucks to drive, too small for comfort, sometimes gets used for fun stuff because fun stuff would not be affordable in the big truck. Gets used about 20,000 miles a year.

Harley- 38 MPG. Used whenever time and conditions permit. Willing to get soaked and/or frozen to save a few bucks on gas.

My commute is 70 miles round trip, 5 days a week, it adds up fast, and is a big factor in figuring out monthly expenses while I am considering buying a house right now.

Have only boyght $5.00 of gas from those bastards since the Valdez spill and only because I was right in the middle of BFE and that was the ONLY gas station in town. BTW, $5.00 was pretty risky, because I was praying I had bought enough to make the next town :D
