I don't really expect big surprises in the tour. He'll say that during interviews, but most of us will still go whether he says that or not. A big surprise lately has meant they rehearsed a good cover song.

he'll toss in a rare cut or two but for the most part its the same, and im fine with that.he does have to play the standards. just stop all the damn cover songs!! jimmy did say recently that the band will be highlighted more this year.we'll see.... i just would love deeper cuts from albums instead of just picking the same songs from the same albums.

As much I was would like to think different, I think Jimmy will do the same old cover songs (BEG, Southern Cross, etc.) and the same JB classics we all love . . . I would love to hear some Cowboy in the Jungle and Tin Cup Chalice but I doubt it. I know he plays them . . . but, IMO, not enough.
the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .

Isn't it funny how these hopeful set list threads ALWAYS come around??? And isn't it funnier how much we all love them?

Truth is, there are some tunes this season that I'd love to hear played that I haven't thought much about in the past.

I would love to hear some cool stuff like:

1) First Look
2) Take Another Road
3) That's What Livin' Is To Me
4) Great Heart
5) Uncle John's Band <-- How cool would that be, right??

As much as I love Johnny Clegg songs . . . I am sort of hoping Jimmy does more Jimmy songs . . .

Just once I'd like to go to a Jimmy Buffett concert and hear only Jimmy Buffett songs. He's got enough good ones to fill out a setlist.

I know what you mean... I really do. I was somehow troubled to learn that Jimmy didn't even write If It All Falls Down, or Savannah Fare You Well. I suppose I feel that way about as much as most people do. Trouble is... once you start limiting him like that, then there's so much less to listen to.

Would you feel the same way about Banana Republics, or about Uncle John's Band, or Brown Eyed Girl, or Southern Cross, or Mexico, etc... etc.... etc.... ?

He's gotta sell Nadirah's record so she will likely be featured somehow this tour during intermissions I'd presume. He also needs to get the excitment going for the casino so he'll stick to the SYKBH peppered with some covers and current Hits to keep the "current" interest.
The Parrot Dice Lounge kinda like a mirage. Here today and gone tomorrow. You should stop by and say hello when visiting Chicago on tour.

It's not a matter of not necessarily enjoying those songs because I really do but as an example what you just typed above in that order was damn near the a set for one of my first Chicago shows . . . add in CIP, M'ville, OPH, Fins, WDWGDAS (recently dropped), and APLA40 and you got yourself a show practically.

I am in the minority here . . . I don't like Jimmy's Brown Eyed Girl (BEG) or most of the covers he does (Mexico and Southern Cross included - although Southern Cross is a decent cover, I guess). . . especially the songs he does for just one tour (Werewolves in London) where he COULD be doing Jimmy Buffett songs that haven't been played in years . . .

someone above wrote that Jimmy could play Row Row Row Ypur Boat . . . and I agree - Jimmy can do what he wants and I will still have a blast. . . he just has so many songs I love and want to hear that I can do without the covers.

He doesn't play Banana Republics that often but I would still rather hear a JB song. I was never a Dead fan so not hearing Uncle John's Band wouldn't bother me. I've seen Van Morrison do Brown Eyed Girl, Jimmy should never do it again. I like Southern Cross but I'm tired of hearing it every show. Mexico is a good song, but again I'd rather hear a JB song. There are so many that he rarely, or never, plays. Break out the old stuff and leave the covers home.

We always get Banana Republics in Chicago . . . you can bet on it due to the Steve Goodman connection. Thankfully I don't live near Jersey so I won't have to live in constant fear of Glory Days. Sorry East Coasters.

I hear you on Glory Days. I'm a big Springsteen fan but that's one of my least favorite of his songs. :o

No kidding...
When SoulMate and I listened to one of the MSG shows - the one where there was no second encore that just ended after Jimmy did Glory Days - he turned to me and said "Maybe there isn't another song because an angry mob is chasing Jimmy down 7th Avenue right now..."

He could play "Walk Like an Egyptian" for all I care, if he comes to Denver....

(of course, he'd have to play some of his songs too....)

I tend to agree with Larry. I would LOVE a set list of originals (or non-other peoples)
I wanna hear Presents to Send You. It's my all time favorite ever in the whole wide world and I've never heard it live (get the point I like it??)
I also like the weird songs most people DON'T like...so, I'd go and be happy with pretty much...anything!
