Jones Beach is a great place to see a Buffett show but the tailgating is so-so, nothing great. The lot is huge but there will be plenty of other cars there for people who are just going to the beach and not thee to tailgate. The police there are also very very strict about alcohol. I went in 04, we got there at 8am

we were the first ones there, kinds like the Grizwalds at Wally World

. It is probably one of the best places to see a Buffett concert but the worst tailgating of all the places I have been to.
I know about the strict alcohol policy - that's why I couldn't figure out how tailgating and partying could compare to other sites. I can make unspiked fruit smoothies instead.

They're also very strict about what you can carry into the theater. I was turned back at the gate before a Jethro Tull concert and had to trek back to my car to drop off a tote bag that the "gatekeepers" told me I could not bring into the show. Geez, it only contained a towel and a rain poncho! I had to carry the towel and poncho back in sans tote bag.
I haven't had any problems there in any of the Buffett shows I have gone too, keep the State Park Police fed and don't wave a bottle under there nose and they will pretty much leave you alone. They just don't want to be made fools of. I had the Margaritas flowing with the crawfish at the last show and had a great time, even took a pic with a couple of the cops...lol.

Now that we know it's CBP in Philly on June 14th, could Jones Beach be shortly before or after this date?

mmmmmmmmm, could be.
But don't expect a date until CBP is sold out.
Marketing strategy.

If he does play Jones Beach this year, I am seriously thinking of making the long trip up! Been told I need to see Jimmy there at least once!

Jones Beach is still possible....
From the News Thread:
Saw this posted on a Sonny Landreth fan site: Sonny has plans to play several shows with Jimmy Buffett this year. He'll first be playing in Houston with Buffett in April (around the Houston Intl Festival date). He'll be playing with Jimmy at Margaritaville Cafe on May 1 and at New Orleans JazzFest on May 3rd.
There are some June dates as well, early June in Atlanta and Durham, mid June in New York and Philadelphia. At many of the larger venues the entire band will play a mini set during Buffett's break.

Looks like we have a scoop. There's no Houston date announced yet, is there?

I saw a rumor somewhere for April 18th I think

JB at JB....I'm crossing my fingers

I'm hoping he holds true to this recent every two year visit to JB and of course there is always his summer break in the Hamptons which brings him to LI. I'm not sure if this is true, but I had heard once that the reason he only comes through every two years has to do with advertising and show sponsors. Most of the shows at the beach are always sponsored by Coca Cola and I believe Coors Light. When he comes in all the sponsor signage changes over to Margaritaville Tequila and in the past Corona Extra. I had heard that because of that they limited him to shows every other year which again would be this year!!!..Fins and fingers crossed

The last 2 times he played Jones Beach the shows were the Saturday before the 4th of July (2006) and the Saturday of Labor Day weekend (2004) so that June date is possible. On the other hand, the Alpine Valley show is July 19 and the 2 Chicago area shows are July 24 & 26 so Jones Beach on June 28 would mean only 2 weeks off between legs of the tour. The last few years it's been more like 2 weeks on, 6 weeks off.

Well he CLEARLY doesn't understand that July 1st is my birthday and this was/is going to be my little gift to myself!

Well, it doesn't look like he's playing a show on my birthday either. And my birthday is even a Tuesday this year.

If he stayed true to form, and it weren't for stoopid leap year, he woulda played a concert on my birthday this year.
