Well, he is short, and every time I get it back the seat is awfully close to the dashboard....

And trust me Molly, everyone we know in the neighborhood goes to him.

Good for you, those types of honest mechanics are hard to find. I have one of them that I use who I found out about from a neighbor shortly after moving in. He does so much extra stuff and his work when he does have to do some serious jobs is always done well and is resonable cost wise. Count yourself among the lucky ones. I used to have a mechanic that I would swear would break something else everytime I went in so a few weeks later I was back again.

As for the safety lock thing with the key, sounds like a VW to me. I have had a few of those and they all had that same thing. Can be a pain sometimes but you'll never lock your keys inside

We have a phlocking in Hartford..... Since there will be dranking involved, we turn our cars over the master mechanic for the weekend and he fixes everything while we play......

i agree, sounds like a vw..had them all my life. if it is, i wonder if he thought to ask you about the water pump and thermostat? those all involve the same amount of $$ labor. i'm getting all those done at the same time...some time this spring after spending so much $$ on buffett related travels.
let's hope the timing belt hangs in there that long.
we have a great mechanic who's specialty is german cars. we call him the furor because he is so hell bent on doing it so well the first time but is cost conscience. we know it isn't pc but somehow it fits. i love that guy.
