Maybe he was embarrassed or felt awkward because he needed help....
at any rate, just take it for what it was.....a random act of kindness.....you know you did the right thing.....and would do it again next time.

I've stopped being nice to people for a while now. I've held doors open for women of all ages - with a smile even! - and get nothing so much as some glare.
***** that guy in the wheel chair - you should have put the boot it.
Here's a good irony for ya - a few weeks ago a handicapped driver screwed up and drove into the wall of a busy breakfast place. WHY? Because the stupid handicapped parking is right in front of all buildings when it should be as far away as possible.

I'm always holding the door open for people. When they don't say thanks (about 50% of the time), I say loudly, "YOU'RE WELCOME !" in a cheerful voice. Sometimes you gotta teach people things.

Well I saw him at the station yesterday afternoon and I just glared
But I did help a mother wtih three young children with her pram on the train and she was very thankful - so my faith is restored

I'm with Paige and Louie, think he was embarrassed, and may have been there for a while..
