I have to admit if I had a fiance who considered a football game of more importance that our marriage...and I had to postpone the wedding because of football season, I'd be seriously thinkin I need a new fiance. :P

(I was married in September--that's when Tom's lease ran out and my parents were still in Michigan before leaving for Florida for the winter) Autumn in Michigan can be quite nice for a wedding.... [smilie=battingeyes.gif]
Maybe not June, but May I scheduled. Also, just a reminder. I never once mentioned the football/fall dates. My wife said no way to a fall date because of football. She was thinking of her passion for football but also thinking of all the guests that were attending our wedding.

It was never a issue of fiance choice just to clarify....[/quote]

Ahhh! I see..the two of your are football compatible. :D

And Santa brings up another point. Deer, duck, turkey, rabbit, quail, bear, bow, firearms, muzzleloader seasons...not to mention trout, Walleye, elk, ice fishing......

Sigh...guess no weddings can be scheduled at all....it's ALWAYS something season.

We were Married at the end of April.

The Steelers were all playing Golf. The Pirates were probably off to a good start - just waiting to hit their annual season long slump. (I don't know that for a fact, just guessing)

Who knew when we set the date a year and a half before that The Penguins would be in the playoffs and they would schedule the tie breaking game against the Flyers the same night.

(We are Pittsburgh fans who live outside of Philly)

Well, I must be a good and understanding wife because my new husband asked the maitre d' to keep him informed of the score throughout the night. The DJ would announce the score between songs.

It went something like this.....

2:10 left in the 2nd period and the Pens and ahead 2:1. Our next song goes out to.....

Well, only half of the room was happy with the outcome of the game and it wasn't the Penguins side.

But that is just one of the things that made our wedding day the best day EVER!!!

It's the FSU/VA Tech game?????

And you're thinking FSU is gonna win????

You might want to go to that wedding!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

I could never understand the obsession with professional sports. I'll watch a game if there is nothing else on TV, but I ultimately think to myself who really gives a .... It is a game where people make way too much money. And I can't even afford to go to one of these games and see it live if I choose to. I do, however, enjoy highschool football and highschool baseball. To me that is where the fun is. A game with kids playing.

Here in the south it is a religon and any true southern bell should know that you don't do fall weddings. I made that clear to my fiance from day one and told my friends that if we have a fall wedding they are to go to Doak S. Campbell Stadium and miss my wedding. Hence no groomsmen. She likes teasing me that Thanksgiving weekend was ideal (same weekend as Florida-Florida State) but she knows. :D

By the way thank you for the website, I have already signed the guestbook.

Holy Smokes! I guess I’m about to be very unpopular. I like sports, too, but how's about some perspective? How many games will there be? How many times do you want to get married? Record the game. You’re supposed to be in seclusion for a while after the wedding anyway. How hard is that?

On a related note, today is Valentine’s Day. I make sure that my wife knows how much I love and appreciate her every day in little ways, because I grew up in a family that impressed upon me that it’s the every day little things that make our lives good or bad. When I was seventeen my Dad sat me down on the porch, gave me my first beer and told me the secret to a happy life - be an honest man and never, ever cause your wife to feel unloved by you.
Every Christmas, my wife gives me new p.j.s, and every Valentine’s Day, I tie a ribbon around the old ones (clean and folded, naturally) and give them to her. She loves them and I think they look great on her.
Last night I disabled her alarm clock. I took care of the kids and her sister chauffeured them to school. I left a plate of croissants and jams on her nightstand, and I left the p.j.s on my side of the bed. On my way to the office, I stopped by my sister-in-law’s house and left her an appreciative note, a pink rose, a bottle of wine, and a book by her favorite author on her doorstep.
Tonight I’m going to grill steaks for the family, I’m going to take complete charge of clean up, then we’re all going to hit the family room for popcorn and a movie.
She’ll think I’m done, but on Friday I’m coming home at lunch. Her sister is going to pick-up the kids from school and stay over night with them. I’m taking my wife to a hotel suite in Hot Springs for the night, and I’ve arranged for a carriage to take us to dinner, and for flowers and champagne to be in our room when we get back.
I love my wife. I’m in awe that she picked me to share her time on Earth. She is the most wonderful person I know, and she’s the main reason I love my life. I wish the same for everyone else. Happy Valentine’s Day!!

A friend told me the story about a girl she worked with in NC. Well the girl plans her wedding for the weekend before Labor Day in Bristol TN. She could not figure out why her guests comming from out of town could not fing a room closer the 85 miles away. The fact that 160,000 people were attending the NASACR race in Bristol and had booked their rooms 10 to 12 months ago did not help. Not sure how she made out or if she moved it to Charlotte.

I’m a native southerner, my wife is as well. I’ve got to say, elevating sports to the status of religion is something the obsessed do to justify their obsession. Look, if both parties are fans, this probably wouldn’t even be an issue. If you are close to the bride or groom or both, you attend to show support for that “team” reaching their “goal”.
In my book, a true Southern Gentleman doesn’t send a lady the message that what he wants precedes consideration of her, or that he expects her to be the more considerate of the two of them. I sure wouldn’t want to send that message to her Momma and Daddy!
It’s true that a lot of today’s southern men believe their interests come first and that’s sacrosanct, but that doesn’t make it right. It’s a wonder they aren’t stuck by lightning when they recite their vows, assuming there’s an acceptable date in their schedule to formalize pledging a “commitment.”

And we don't argue about who looks better because we both agree it looks best on the floor!

Twenty minutes more and I'll be well on my way to throwing p.j.s on the floor! Have a great weekend, ya'll!
