I hope the one in Cincinnati stays open.

At least until after the concert.

I LOVE those mini cheeseburgers.

I wonder what they do with the decorations when a CIP closes ? I would love to have some of the stuff !

Here's my view from inside the industry:

The restaurant industry as a whole is about to contract and weaker concepts like CiP will not be around. There are several factors shrinking the margins to the point that only the best run, strongest places can survive. The cost of oil is having a huge impact on the price of goods, especially when you factor in shipping. The right wing attack on immigration seems to be dying down but that would cripple the service industry further. Hourly wage laws, particularly in California, are also wreaking havoc with cash flow. For example, restaurants in San Francisco pay over $9 per hour for each waiter plus another $1+ per hour to the city for a local health tax. They are also required to have formal break periods and the employees get paid sick days if their roommate is out sick. With that plan, most waiters worth their salt can out earn most of the management team. Not to mention places like NYC requiring Trans Fat Free oil and calorie listings on menus which are expensive changes. All these additional costs are making it almost impossible to operate at a profit. As a liberal, I'm excited about these changes but the industry will be greatly changed.

In the last year in Hawaii, I've seen all the TGI Fridays, Jackie Chan's, and a Hooters close their doors. This has been a windfall of talent for my operation and we're, so far, lucky to be seeing a rise in sales. The shift to fast casual dining (think Chipolte or Noodles & Co.) concepts makes sense if you're opening a restaurant. Putting your stores in foreign markets like Dubai also makes a lot of sense right now.

I'm hungry now...

We only have 2 here in Indy. And they are both visible from the Interstate. Maybe I just think they are easy to find though because I know they are there.

Heard from staff at CiP....

Last night while sipping our cocktails at the Sandestin (Destin), Fl. location, a staffer there confided that the entire CiP chain is on the market and that Margaritaville Enterprises is looking at the possibility of aquiring it....
Don't shoot the messenger, just what we heard.

interesting... hopefully this is good news. but why would Mville want to buy a chain that's struggling?

i thought the same...wouldnt it be cool to have the CIP palm tree in the garage...ha
when they closed the one in Asheville, all the decorations was gone within 24 hrs.
suprised none of it made it to ebay....cant even think of it being in the landfill.

had I known they were closing, I would have offered to pay them to let me remove the stuff..and I would have THE COOLEST BUFFETT GARAGE IN THE WORLD :pirate: and the pictures would litter penny's "post a picture" thread :D

I have mixed feelings about CIP. We just visited our 4th restaurant (Newport News, VA; Woodbridge, VA; York, PA; Exton, PA) and it was probably the most disappointing visit we've had. Unfortunately we brought my brother there for his first visit and he was NOT happy.

My favorite things there are the drinks, onion six strings and the music. Can you imagine my disappointment at this most recent stop that they didn't have any rum runner or froz marg? How was I supposed to have a Lady of the Sea, or a Pain in the Bahamas?

I am still quite amazed at the lack of marketing they've done. I remember my first visit when I found out the only way you could buy merchandise was online - the items they had there on display, was just for show.

I am shocked that York closed down... never seen it less than packed!

Would love if Margaritaville Enterprises were to buy the chain. Personally never have been to a Margaritaville in this country - Caribbean stops only for me and my keet.

I think it would do much better back in there hands. Ever since jimmy

parted with the chain they have appeared to go down hill. Bad upper

management causes problems at the place it should not, the spot where

the moneyis made. It is too bad they have already lost some great

people who became disillusioned with the changes.
