Real newbie, started listening when I went to KW in 2003 and fell in love.
Up until then I was among the poor lost souls who thought it was only about "Margaritaville" because that's pretty much all they ever played on the radio.

I'm 29, when I was a young lad, I can remember sitting in front of my parent's speakers with my toy guitar singing Margaritaville & Amaerican Pie, but my parents just listened to the radio and didnt educate me in that matter, so I didnt know who was who, what was what. but you can say that it started then as i searched for my lost "sugar & salt". But I guess I became a big fan in college and a true Parrot Head just after college.
great idea i look forward to reading others

Take me for what I am, a star newly emerging.

Yep. It was way kewl. You *could* hang with him in those days ... and with Jerry Jeff and Willis Alan, too. It was a heady time. Jimmy was such fun ... and you just knew he was going to make it big, because no matter how much he inbibed or inhaled, he *always* knew the exact amount of the night's take ...Mottola-Buffett wrote:1972! Wow. That's great. I would have liked to hang with Jimmy back then. I'm a big fan of the old accoustic stuff. Unfortunately, I was listening to Peter, Paul and Mary and probably songs from Sesame Street.East Texas Parrothead wrote:1972.
It was just Jimmy and his guitar and some great, great stories.
Gentilly ... 42 years is a long time to wait .... a Northeast Texas woman can hope.

I remember back in the 70's, my mom bought a K-tel record that had Margaritaville on it. I loved the song and played it over and over. I became a Parrothead back in the mid 90's when I bought SYKBH and soon after started buying other JB CDs. I've always lived the lifestyle, just didn't know there were so many others like me out there, and it took finding Jimmy again in the 90s to see that.
First concert was at Mountainview,CA for the Far Side of the World Tour....last one was last Labor Day at Gillette Stadium.

Worked for the Dept. of Forestry back in 77 when CILCIA came out and washed miles and miles and miles of fire hose listening to that. Were talking Levi 501's, cowboy boots and Hawaiian shirts even back then. Big time gap; college, getting married, kids, etc., etc., and a friend let me borrow "The Yellow Album" around 92. Since then I've experienced some the happiest moments in my life and the music has been a HUGE part of it....even though cowboy boots now hurt my back.... so it's Ropers or boots with crepe soles with jeans and Hawaiian shirts.
got to stop wishin' got to start fishin'....

Knew Jimmy in college, liked Songs You Know By Heart, then came to campus for my senior year, and my roomate got delayed and wasnt there to open the aprtment. Wandered down to local music store to kill time. Found Riddles In The Sand, Changes in Latitudes, You Had To Be There and Cocunut Telegraph for something like $20.00 total. Hooked ever since, that was 1990.
Spending 24/7 in a Key West state of mind......
