I met him at a traffic light, walking along Boylston Street in Boston on the Saturday morning between Fenway shows in 2004. We'd come from opposite directions and were both crossing the street into the Boston Public Gardens. I asked him just how cool it was for a baseball fan to play Fenway Park. He was still amped up like a kid on Christmas morning, saying what a great experience it was. The light changed and I actually went the other way for about a block before cutting back over to the Gardens to sit and read my book (the original plan). No one bothered him or seemed to recognize him....

Near the end of the Paris show, he asked over the mic "where are the guys from England who come to all my shows?", so we waved to indicate where we were (at the left hand side of the stage) and he played the last couple of songs.
When he finished, he signed autographs for those in front (see Larry's post earlier) then said "excuse me, I gotta go say hello to these folk over here" and came over and introduced himself (well, ok, we knew who he was already) had a chat, gave us a hug, he thanked us for coming to the shows (no, no, thank you Jimmy), told us we were on the Anguilla dvd and signed stuff for some more folk.
Very luckily, the camera was out and still working!
Thanks JL.....

Yes it was just amazing when he came over to say hello to us. A fellow BN member took this picture of me chatting with Jimmy

I had front row tickets to the Indianapolis show last year. Jimmy saw my tattoo on my shoulder (I have the "It's my own damn fault" logo with his autograph underneath it) and he came over shook my hand and said he liked my ink. A short encounter, but its only a matter of time before he learns my name...maybe.

They stood back off to the side from the crowd and eventually, Bono and Edge came up to them and asked if they knew of somewhere quiet to go on campus. My friends jokingly said, "Our apartment is quiet", to which Bono replied, "OK, let's go." So, the four of them hung out for a couple hours that night in their apartment just shooting the breeze. Funny enough, one of the girls' mother was visiting that weekend and came out of the bedroom in nightgown and slippers and said, completely unaware of who they were, "Oh my goodness, I had no idea you girls had male guests over. I'll leave you alone." Well, Bono, of course invited her to join them and all five of them had a great time sitting on the living room floor eating popcorn, drinking pop and creating, for my girlfriends, a once in a lifetime memory.UpstateNYPH wrote: Great story Jen. Thats how I would like to meet him. Not at a show, or Margaritaville, just randomly bump into him in public, exchange a few words for a minute, and be on our seperate ways. Although I have no idea what I would say...
Anyway, to make a long story short, that'd be a cool way to get to know Jimmy.

What she said...bufitonmybmw wrote:Um, the answer to that would be a great big YES!![]()
Ok, ok....many of you have heard me tell my story- but she asked!!
So, I'll tell it again....
We were fortunate enough to be in the right time at the right place down in Anguilla last March. Taking the ferry over from St. Martin that Thursday, we were tipped off to be on the beach outside the Dune Preserve the next morning to 'see what happens'.... And that we did- at 8am! There were just the 4 of us, initially....myself, Rob, frozenbird (Chris) & parrotprof (Dawn). The workers were messin' around...straightening out the sand...stools, etc. One by one, the Reefers started coming out...Robert, Peter, Nadirah...
Then lo and behold from behind us (via the Cuisinart Resort) comes Jimmy....just walked up...shook Rob's hand..said 'hello'....Chris told him he was guarding the grass (the Dune- it's protected!) That was a jaw-dropping moment in and of itself!
So we proceed to stand there, awestruck by all of it as more people started to wander over.... things got put in place....Charleston kept everything well under control, including where we all could stand/sit.
Then he plays. For about 2 hours! When they were done- he spoke, thanking all of us for being there & talked about making the DVD. Then he basically just walked our way & I started saying that I was from Chicago, had 5 kids...was so happy to meet him...at which point he said 'Damn, you look good!' <sigh>![]()
I had made a sign, which said 'Welcome to my 40th Birthday Party' that he then autographed 'To a pirate at 40, Love JB'. Then someone said Picture! and we posed below.
At that point- to the best of my recollection- I started bawling. Like a baby. Uncontrollable sobbing. For how long? I dunno....talk about a moment when you're numb. Absolutely numb. I had a once-in-a-lifetime moment...one that I will NEVER forget..
I was there, and I still don't believe it. A little while before Jimmy showed up we were approached by a member of the production crew who wanted to know if we were friends of Bankie's or Jimmy's. She quickly discovered that we were neither and put us to work protecting a little patch of sea grass. Wouldn't you know the first guy that attempted to walk through the grass was Jimmy Buffett. As he was heading towards it, I said "hey, buddy keep off the grass!" and smiled at him. He looked confused for a second then smiled back and said, "Oh, you guys are in charge of the grass around here." Then, as Cindy said, he stopped and chatted for a few minutes.
And yes, the sobbing did go on for quite some time. Until we got her drunk...oh wait, that was me

smooched? that's weird because I distinctly heard Jimmy tell a lady once that asked him for a kiss "I am sorry I don't do that anymore". Don't ask me the year (many, many healthy brain cells ago), I somehow got right in front of the stage at Margaritaville Orlando when Club Trini was playing. Jimmy showed up and played. I was right in front of his mic. When he finished playing he reached down, shook my hand and said, "That was fun, wasn't it?" I think I managed a smile and a nod of my head but I wouldn't swear to it. ![battingeyes [smilie=battingeyes.gif]](./images/smilies/battingeyes.gif)

Nothing slobbery of course, just a hug and a peck to eachother on the cheek. He smooched each of us that way.12vmanRick wrote:smooched? that's weird because I distinctly heard Jimmy tell a lady once that asked him for a kiss "I am sorry I don't do that anymore".
