I don't hate it but I don't like it either, even if it was just a joke to make fun of some country music lyrics. I read an interview where he said he overheard someone say that to a woman in a bar once.. and just couldn't resist writing a song about it.. who knows?... I just skip it on the cd's I listen too.irishcajunphan wrote:Gees. . .bad Buffett songs. . .
I am willing to risk getting kicked off the site, but I hate "Why Don't We Get Drunk?" in all its incarnations. I suffer through only because he has to play it at every show and you can only come up with so many versions.
it's my own damn fault...

I have to say...Elvis is the only song I don't listen to all the way throgh. I have moods and songs to match but Changing Channels is a mellow, Sunday afternoon song. My keet who is 13 LOVES Math Suks...for obvious reasons. So, to some it up, I don't believe Buffett has a "bad" song. Just different tunes for different moods. I think in the long run, I'd listen to them all. Closest to my heart HAS to be Delaney talks to Statues. My other keet just turned 5 and her imagination is just like Ms. Sarah Delaney. Jimmy has so many, there is one that is bound to be a favorite to someone and hated by someone else.
"Mommy, when is Jimmy Buffett coming to OUR house? We go see him ALL THE TIME??" (Actual quote from my 5 y/o keet)

Ten that I always skip (in no particular order):
Come to the Moon
Changing Channels
I Wish Lunch Could Last Forever
Souvenirs
Altered Boy
Autour du Rocher
Mademoiselle Voulez Vous Danser
Simply Complicated
Livin' It Up
Oysters and Pearls
I almost never skip Elivis Imitators though
The thing is, we all have songs that we love, some we don't care about, and for some reson we don't all agree on what makes this list. That's what i love about reading through forums like this. My all-time favorite Buffett songs are Prince of Tides and The Ballad of Skip Wiley, but I wouldn't be shocked to learn that these are at the bottom of someone else's list.

Well said Palm! Souviniers (sp?) is a fav of mine...see, again, we are different. BUT...(there's always one!) Most of Jimmy stuph, I push play and forget to change or skip over things and songs I used to feel indifferent about, I find myself singing later. Stories we could tell is the example for that one!

Instead of "worst" I'd say these are among my "least favorites". In no particular order:
Altered Boy
Survive
Baby's Gone Shoppin' (along with the majority of the rest of Hot Water)
I Heard I Was In Town (most of the rest of Somewhere Over China) as well)
Jimmy Dreams
You Call It Jogging
License To Chill
Simply Complicated
A great deal of Don't Stop The Carnival as well but I don't think it's because it's a bad record, it just doesn't translate well as a stand alone album. Even though I listen to it every year I have to throw most of Christmas Island in there too, particularly the cover of John Lennon's "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)".

Isn't it funny that someone's least favorite is on someone else's LOVE list??Jahfin wrote:Instead of "worst" I'd say these are among my "least favorites". In no particular order:

I would LOVE to hear Jimmy Dreams in concert, as a last encore.
Let me say, other than a song or two, it was really hard to make that list which speaks well to Bubba's overall catalog. I really don't mind "Jimmy Dreams" that much it's just the whole singing in third person thing that's sorta strange.springparrot wrote:Isn't it funny that someone's least favorite is on someone else's LOVE list??Jahfin wrote:Instead of "worst" I'd say these are among my "least favorites".
