A batman (or batwoman) is a soldier or airman assigned to a commissioned officer as a personal servant.

A popular German army song "Ich war der Putzer vom Kaiser" ("I was the Kaiser's batman") sung during World War I tells of a soldier who missed the horrors of service on the Western front by being the batman to Kaiser Wilhelm II. It was set to a contemporary tune for a whistling version in 1967, and released under the title "I was Kaiser Bill's Batman" in the United Kingdom and United States. The artist credited was "Whistling Jack Smith", whose real identity is still a matter of debate.

Let's see....

The one that most people don't believe is that I've never been arrested.

I have dated anywhere from 16 years my junior to 30 years my senior.

In the last 18 years I have had 23 different addresses.

I have crossed the country by planes, trains and automobiles.

And, thanks to my time in the sideshow, I can eat fire, walk on broken glass, hammer a nail into my nose and put a lit cigarette out on my tongue.
Take me for what I am, a star newly emerging.
I accept the new found man, and I set the twilight reeling.

The artist credited was "Whistling Jack Smith", whose real identity is still a matter of debate.
Kaiser Wilhelm II, William II was born in Berlin to Prince Frederick William of Prussia and his wife, Victoria, Princess of Prussia (born Princess Royal of the United Kingdom), thus making him a grandson of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom. He was Queen Victoria's first grandchild. As the son of the Crown Prince of Prussia, William was (from 1861) the second in the line of succession to Prussia, and also, after 1871, to the German Empire, which according to the constitution of the German Empire was ruled by the Prussian King. As with most Victorian era royalty, he was related to many of Europe's royal families.
