Somebody try to help me out here

I'm trying to figure out why everyone is complaining about Jimmy doing a stadium tour this year. I usually go to shows in the pittsburgh and philly areas (but have been known to travel). And missing a show because it's at a ballpark blows my mind.

Is it the sound? Because i've seen many shows at philadelphia's Citizens Bank park. Even up top in the "nose bleed" section (where i sat for the Police concert last summer) the sound was phenominal. When I saw Jimmy there in '05, the sound was excellent. I was both on the field and in seats for the 2 nights. I have recordings and they sound better than many of the other shows.

Maybe I just need some clarification.......

How in the world can you say, with a straight face, that the sound in the nose bleed section of Citizens was "phenominal". I mean, that statement is a complete joke.

Stadiums are for watching sporting events, not listening to a concert.

The acoustics in stadiums usually s***. I've been on the field for a few stadium shows and down there the sound's pretty good. I was in the field level seats behind first base in CBP in 2005 and the sound was awful.

Try the upper seats in Minute Maid---JB on the big screens was almost an inch tall and the sound was awful.
I was glad to get a copy of the concert to finally hear what we missed

First off, MOST people won't miss the show because it's at stadium. They just Prefer the smaller amphitheatres/arenas for the obvious reason (Closer to stage/Sound usually better).
Maybe the sound wasn't that bad at your ballpark, but as a whole, the sound at stadiums CANNOT compare to amps. or arenas!
And let's get real, MANY people are there for the tailgate so they could care LESS if JB was playing at the City Dump! No offense Camden.

I'm with you. In 2005 the sound at Citizens was amazingly good. It was even better if you were farther away. We stood for a few songs in the concourse and experience both Buffett, the Reefers and the audience singing along.

IMHO, the sound will be far superior to anything at the Tweeter Center (is that still its name) in Camden, NJ. Glad that JB is coming across the river. Plenty of parking, plenty of tickets. For once!

I was about as far from the Police as you could get at CBP, and I didn't think the sound was great - not the worst, but not great.

In 05 I was on the field for Jimmy both nights and I loved it. My guess is that tix on the filed will be north of $150 and that is way too much!

The sound was bad the first Philly show I went to. I was along first base or behind the plate at the top.

Night two along third base outfield line the sound was better.

Either way, I can't afford the field. Heck, the nosebleed seats are over priced. If I know I could get Jones Beach, I would skip Philly. It's becoming a hassle for me to deal with the crowds in Camden or Philly.

Okay, here's my take having been to both CBP and Camden.

Ballparks are weird to see a show. If you're on the field and not in the first couple dozen rows, I'd imagine it's a strain to see the stage because it's probably not inclined and it's a stretch to see over so many people (never been on the floor, but someone correct if I'm wrong). If you're in the stands, you are either going to be close to the stage, but be on the side and have an awkward sight line (ie. I couldn't see the lighthouse on stage from my seats in '05), or you're going to have a better overall view, but you're going to be far from the stage, even if you are in the lower tiers of seats.

At a shed like Camden, you're much closer to the stage, and unless you have a column in your way on the lawn, you're going to have a better sight line. Last year, I was in one of the last rows of reserved seats, and was worried I wouldn't be able to see the stage that well, but was amazed how close I was when I got there. The seats were probably just as good as any I've had at my "hometown venue" at Jones Beach (where there is nary a bad seat).

I also thought the sound was better at Camden. When I listened to recordings of both the 05 CBP show and the 07 Camden show for the first time, there were much fewer instances of "he said that? i don't remember that" with the Camden show. So yes, I do think the sound was better at Camden.

I guess as others have said, ballparks were meant for baseball (or football in Gillette's case), not concerts. Sheds like Camden and stadiums like Jones Beach were made for music. I'd hope to God that the sheds would be better places to hear a concert than a ballpark.

Let's face it.. Tailgating at baseball parks
is a dying tradition.. the new park in The City has no parking
for such.. in the old Days of Candlestick there were Acres of room

Coors field in Denver?? as much as I like that park and
enjoy games there.. no place to party before a game..

Minute Maid park in Houston??
We had to jump through hoops to tailgate there..

I know Jimmy hasn't played at the first two but I am using them
as examples..

because jimmy has always played outdoor sheds and indoor coliseums and thats what his loyal fans love..i was at both gillette shows this year and although the concerts were great the way the stadium crew, bathroom situation for people on the floor, the bracelets, 40 dollar parking, shorter time to tailgate, poorer sound quality, etc., it was a far distant 2nd rate experience compared to jimmy at great woods.and im sure the loyal fans that have seen him over the years would agree that we would rather see him in a smaller venue.the only plus to a stadium show is that getting tickets is easier and thats about it.

I hear ya! Luckly we were staying at the hotel across from the park & just pulled up to the bar. We got pushed in from a side bar going into the park early before the show & was informed we couldn't leave after being in line. Had I known that, I would have never went through there. Overall, great experience just some bumps.

I can vouch that he was there!

And the sound where we were was noot good. Sight lines are bad. Seems to be more people telling you to sit down at stadiums.

Not a fan of stadiums, so yes, I'll probably pass...but not the tailgate!
