Eyesore or Art

Post by Marnin Grita Guy »

My hometown is building a new museum and it is rather controversial in

design. It is growing on people though as it nears completion.

Your thoughts?

Look at it at night also it may make a difference.

This is Roanoke Va. where I grew up R2. City is only 93,000 people

when you consider the whole MSA (metropolitan statistical areas) the

area has about 295,000 residents.

Among other things, I thought you would appreciate this award:

Center for Digital Government has named the City of Roanoke a Leading Digital City. Roanoke ranked second in the nation for 2007 in its population category of 75,000 to 124,999.

I supposed art museums are supposed to look weird, however, the biggest thing I see is that it's SO out of sync with the rest of the buildings and Roanoke isn't a huge metropolis that could absorb it.

Although they thought THIS was hideous when it was first built too....

This seems to be the movement in architecture. These types of buildings are popping all over.

I don't know how to post the picture, but here is a link to one at Case-Western Reserve University here in Cleveland.

growing up only a few miles from Tulsa, OK...and several Frank Lloyd Wright inspired houses as well as an original, I've always been used to architecturial art.

probably not much old money, certainly oil money, tho.

Tulsa, also, has some of the most outstanding art deco buildings in the country.

This is an architect's rendition of what a museum in nearby Union City, TN is going to look like. In a medium sized town here in northwest Tennessee. The guy who owns Kirkland's home decor lives here in a HUGEHUGEHUGE house is giving millions to build this. :D It has a fin. :D I'll reserve judgement until it's built.

Image

It will have a working farm, art museum, history museum, wildlife and military displays, energy, power, science, space stuff. gah. This will be something to see (it's being built on the route of a future interstate highway). :o
