Surprise birthday party

Post by Bob Roberts »

I'm throwing my parents a double surprise birthday party in a couple of weeks. They both turn 50 in less than a month of eachother. I want to do the usual "over the hill" theme. Never done anything like this before. Any ideas?

Hey! Who says 50 is "over the hill"? :D :D
Sounds like a very thoughtful thing to do. As far as ideas go... since they're children of the 70's how about a Polyester Flashback party?

I wish my son had taken me to see the midget stripper for my 50th

But seriously why don't you get their friends to write a favorite story about your parents, maybe include some old pictures.

Or make it a kinda retro theme. If your parents liked disco, play disco. Kinda take them back to what it was like in the 70's.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

The difference is they are my parents. 8) I wouldn't dare do that to my wife either, but I can get away with it for my parents. I told my mom 2 1/2 years ago that I owed her one when she had my groomsmen tell stories on me at my rehearsal dinner in front of everybody. This is payback time and any chance I can get to give ol' Dad a hard time, I take it. 8)

I'm gonna make it up to them, though. My brother and I are getting them Buffett tickets to Cincy hopefully as birthday presents! :pirate: They are Buffett concert virgins and Dad is the one that brought me and my brother up as parrotheads. He was a fan before anybody knew who Bubba was. Are you going this year to Cincy? This may be my last go-around unfortunately. I may have a newborn on the way this time next year.

Rather than spending big time on a theme, rent a nice space with good food and invite as many friends as possible. Spend a little extra for good music, either DJ or band and let your parents enjoy their day without the distractions of a theme. My wife's family has done a number of special parties and have never done a theme, instead they have paid for airfare so distant friends or relatives could be there.

We are doing a party for my BIL on Good Friday. He will be 50

Its a bad taste party..... everyone has to come dressed in bad taste. If you had seen some of the get ups last time we did this it would keep you laughing for a week......

One guy had love bites all around his neck to go with his 'rather risqué' outfit - he ran out of petrol on the way to the party and the police stopped to help him..............
