Do what I did. Get both. I have a 4GB nano for running around and such and an 80 gb for movies and all my cd's. Currently have about 5K songs on it. My son has a shuffle and a 30gb video. Just got my wife an 80gb classic and my daughter has a 2 gb nano and a 4gb nano video.
Guess we love our Ipods.

Not sure I understand your question....iTunes is iTunes is iTunes.
If you already have it installed, why do you need to reinstall just because the new iPod will come with a copy? You can upgrade it anytime a new verison comes out. Doing that certainly doesn't erase your music you've already ripped to it or have purchased.
We have three iPods...one iTunes set up and account.
Unless you have a shuffle (the original white ones, don't know about the new colored ones)....Shuffles are married to the computer that first set them up...if you plug them into another computer it erases everything and you have to start over.
