The whole notion of going to some DOWNTOWN concrete jungle venue reeks of mass SELLOUT :x :-?
The reason I can handle Vegas "standing in the M'ville alley" atmosphere is ...well, duh... it's Vegas, baby! The whole town is a party... 8)
This baseball park phase he's gone through was real kitchy, and now.. it's been done!

JB should get back to playing outdoors in beautiful, more natural settings, like at Irvine and Chula Vista, and Great Woods, and Alpine Valley and The Shell... :pirate: :wench: 8)

Verizon (Irvine meadows) has NOT shut down you are mistaken. The lease runs through they year 2014 and Don Bren hims elf has said there will NOT be anything done till then. The only thing that did s*** down is Ragin Waters, on the same property and they just got a two year lease extention.

The Reason we. IN california do NOT have a margaritaville is because there was a mexican restaurant called Margaritaville in Newport beach right off PCH and there was a large legal battle over the name and Jimmy decided not to fight it an never bring the restaurant here to So Cal, if anywhere he was thinking in San Diego in the Gas lamp dictrict, but that changed a few year ago. Now the Margaritaville place in newpot beach has gone out of business.
mrfusion clarified the rumor regarding Irvine right after my post. I drank a few beers in the Margaritaville Bar and Restaurant years ago....It's been shut down for at least 5 years. I can't imagine Jimmy's lawyers agreeing to never open anything in OC. It just seems anywhere in So Cal on the coast would be a good profitable place for a Jimmy establishment. Hey, there's a restaurant at the base of the Huntington Beach pier under Duke's that just renamed itself....Savannah's.....maybe he's already here....

Back when HockeyParrotHead was still with CiP, we had a talk about them coming to CA. While I'm a wee bit hazy on the coversation, what stands out was something about CA's minimum wage and laws regarding servers and tips. Basically I recall him saying it wasn't cost effective for them to do business here...so I'm guessing that holds true for M'ville as well.

That sounds like a logical reason.

Ok ok, maybe the stadiums are a bad idea. Santa Barbara Bowl is a cool venue, he played there in 2006 I think? Verizon in Irvine should set up a camp ground or something for people to stay after the shows! I saw Tom Petty there in 2005 and didn't get home till 3 or 4 in the morning! Well, it will be Vegas again in October for sure! I like that they don't cut alcohol sales an hour before it ends, heck, it's Vegas!!! One more thing, Buffett needs to sell his Land Shark Beer in California! Every time I go to Vegas I buy in bulk and bring it home! BevMo needs to start keeping that in stock!

They sell it all over CA. I see it in most places here in Newport, and many bars have flyers about offering it.

As for dates, I'm getting ancy. We are spoiled to have such a network here at Buffett news that can get inside info, but I want CA and West Coast dates now!!!

You can stay overnight in Irvine. We have our 45' tour bus with FINS BUS plates and have stayed in the lot overnight for the last four shows. Others leave their cars to thankfully avoid drinking and driving. All the cars are OK in the morning and no one has ever bothered us. My line in case anyone knocks late telling us to get out is we have been drinking and will not drive. Works like a charm, only had to use this once at the Pond and have slept in my old bus and the new bus overnight all across the country at many venues.

Amen!

We saw Jimmy at Gillette Stadium outside Boston last fall and while it was kinda cool, being in a 70,000 seat sold out stadium just is not the same as Great Woods, Irvine, Coors, etc. While Jimmy makes much more cash, the whole thing is just a bit off for fans. We are looking forward to seeing him at Irvine and Coors if Jimmy announces the shows and back east at Great Woods, and of course Vegas. Vegas, while no tailgate, still is fun based on Mville and the MGM party scene.

I heard from a fellow BNer Jimmy said in a show he may play Catalina Island.....now that would be something!

Isn't it "26 miles across the sea, Santa Catalina is the place for me. The island of romance, romance, romance, romance!" Hey, an old girlfriend of mine from high school kayaked to Catalina about 15 years ago. (so it's do-able) I remember seeing her at our 10 year class reuion the next night...she was all sunburned.
As for Jimmy playing there, last year at the Vegas Oct. 27th show, HE said his people were looking into him playing on Catalina...so keep your fingers crossed.

You scared the hell out of me with that false rumor about Irvine Meadows (Verizon) shutting down. Stop that! :D (kidding).
A stadium show would be fun, maybe at Anaheim or Dodger Stadium. I would think there'd be enough of a So Cal draw to do a stadium show like he does at Fenway. Irvine is established though, and the Irvine PD lets us have our fun with minimal hassle, so I say Irvine until it closes! Although that would be 4 years past Jimmys retirement age. 8)

I agree with the post....Irvine is still the "holy grail" of shows out west. Jimmy at Great Woods in Boston is the east coast version of Nirvana and we will be at both shows this year. Our version, Irvine is still the best in the west. San Diego (just announced!) is a close second.

Not sure about Jimmy not liking California, but he seems to have fun here and often boats for a few days offshore and takes advantage of the coast and many of his old friends in SD and the LA area. Alas, he is an east coast boy so he may not favor the west, but we sure love him out here.

Jimmy in a stadium is fun, but a bit off. We saw both shows in Boston at Gillette last year. Wow, 70,000 Buffett phans at once was something but it was also just too big. We vote Great Woods or Irvine anyday!

We will be at the SD show and hopefully Irvine. BNer's stop by.....we are in our black/gold tour bus with FINS BUS California plates.

Ahhh....Buffett season!

PS: We need a Margaritaville and deserve one! Jimmy.....news flash: If anyone from your organization reads these posts.......Perfect vacant restaurant in Newport Harbor next to famous Woody's Wharf. The old Hooters/Red Onion location. Docks and everything. Would be huge! I would go in 50/50 if I can park "Hotel California", our boat out back. Just a thought in cyberville.....

Pretty much. Been going on 3 yrs since the last Rose Garden show - plan to see him SoCal/Vegas while holding your breath for a PacNW show. Besides, while any JB show is a great show - the atmosphere is so much better in Vegas. I love the PacNW, but people here have no clue how to really do a tailgate!!

Missed him last Oct in Vegas - won't be missing him again!!!
