Tailgating / Alcohol in the Parking Lot
-There is a City of Raleigh open container ordinance that is in effect in all parking lots.
-This City ordinance specifically prohibits open containers of beer or wine.
-The State of North Carolina laws also restrict open consumption of liquor of any kind.
-Officers from the Raleigh Police Department, Wake County and State of North Carolina Alcohol Beverage Commissions regularly patrol parking lots.
-Walnut Creek Amphitheatre welcomes fans who want to picnic before shows; however, cars must occupy only one parking space. Grills are not permitted on sidewalks, in roadways, near buildings or in any area where guests or property may be damaged.
-Glass bottles are also discouraged.

So, is the "no alcohol" policy really enforced? That is what always bothers me about these Live Nation venues. They all have roughly the same rules but they are vigorously enforced some venues and totally ignored at others.
We were just in downtown Raleigh for the St Patrick's Day parade w/the local PHC and we were ALL drinking in the parking lot where the floats were lining up. The liquor bottles were lined up on someone's tailgate. Policemen, firemen, city officials all walked by us and no one said a thing. SOMEONE even opened a beer while we were walking down the street during the parade but he did pour it into a cup. I just think if you use common sense, pour into cups, take care of your trash, etc. everything will be fine.

Good advice Deb!Most venues i have been at if you do those things you don't get a problem!
Hey Christine!!! Enjoyed talking with you Saturday night. My daughter had a good time at the Bon Jovi concert after all. Of course I thought it was GREAT. He still looks HOT!!! He has so much energy!!! Now I can't wait for her to see Jimmy in June!!!

JB hasn't played at this venue in a long time, and the venue recently changed ownership/mgmt so it's anybodies guess what it will be like this year.

But city and state law has more to do with how the tailgating rules are enforced then anything else. Rules in charlotte are VERY loosely enforced. So, I would think it would be the same in Raleigh.

Those rules posted above DON'T sound strict at all. Normally they would say "absolutely no alcohol may be consumed" or "no alcohol - strictly enforced". AND it doesn't say no grills (it just says you can't operate your grill in place or manner that may hurt someone or property). All I'm hearing from those rules is that we need to put our alcohol in plastic cup (which is pretty standard even at venues that say absolutely no alcohol).

Last year someone at lake Gaston blew up their house doing something foolish with their gas grill. So, I think it’s a good thing that the cops will be there to keep us safe.

I think the same thing applies to this venue as any other – we can drink and grill, but we just can’t get out of hand.

For what it's worth, Jones Beach is a state park and in NY that's supposed to mean no alcohol. At one of the Buffett shows we had our liquor set up on a small table like a mini-bar. One of the state park police patrolling the lot stopped, got out of his car, walked over and told us to cover it with a towel or a blanket so he wouldn't see it the next time he drove by. It's been my experience that the police only give you a hard time if you give them a reason to.
what I really mean . . . I wish you were here

Thanks for the info. That's what I figured. Merriweather Post Pavilion used to be tightly enforced. Not even plastic cups were allowed. I haven't been there for any shows in years because of the parking lot "No Fun Zone," so I don't know if it's changed.

Charlotte was a wide-open blast two years ago and Pittsburgh was no problem at all last year. We're always looking to go to a new city for a Saturday show, preferably one we can drive to so we can bring all of our stuff. Raleigh is our road trip this year!

If you are flying Skybus, I would allow an extra day coming in. While they are definitely budget minded, they have a limited number of planes. Unlike the larger airlines, they can't pull a spare if there is a mechanical failure. Also if flights are cancelled because of weather, they do not have reciprocal agreements with other airlines. So, you are in a situation where you and the other passengers who are on your plane are trying to get seats on the next days plane, which may or may not have seats available.

We flew Skybus out of Greensboro in January for a quick vacation to Florida. We didn't have a set agenda, so delays, etc. were acceptable. But if I had $150 concert tickets, I would have been nervous.

My 2 cents worth, not bashing Skybus, just making you aware of some of the details of "no-frills" flying.

I think they have some good qualities as well. I'd just hate to see somebody try to fly in the morning of the show and have issues.
