Everyone Is A <strike>Scalper</strike> Broker

Okay not everyone, but now that I have your attention.....
How about everyone who re-sells a ticket is a scalper.
By definition if you re-sell a ticket you're a scalper. If you re-sell it at face value you're just a lousy capitalist or a nice person.
By buying a ticket that you may or may not need you're taking away from the available ticket pool, thus decreasing everyone else's chance to buy the tickets they need from TM.
Now I will grant an exception to the generalization for those with last minute issues that force them to cancel their concert plans.
But how many of us have bought the max ticket allotment figuring enough friends will ask if we have any extras....
Meanwhile BN ends up with 52 threads of people complaining they couldn't get tickets....

not only are we dealing with scalpers, but there are regular people who just buy tickets to the most popular concerts just to make some money on ebay. ebay has opened up scalping to everyone. people can just go on ticketmaster and get tickets with no intention of going, just to list them on ebay.
it would be nice if Jimmy had a fan site you could register to like the Police do, or Duran Duran, or David Bowie. You pay a small fee for the fanclub and they offer tickets to the fans first. But, seeing that Jimmy Buffett is a huge concert draw it would still be difficult to obtain tickets.

with the invention of Stub Hub, the average person can become a scalper with a few clicks of the mouse. i don't condone scalping at all, but with these outrageous ticket prices who can blame em. I mean, if i had the opportunity to go to a show for less than face value by selling a few "premium" seats to offset the cost. I might try it myself. I am, however, not lucky enough to score seats for myself...let alone extra seats to sell.

even fans that have sites such as the ones you mention, 'fans' are usually limited to one show and certain seats.
I think there are 2 different types 'scalper haters' on these boards. Those that are p*** that they can't get tickets at all and those that feel that the brokers eat up all the 'good tickets'.
Internet based ticket sales open up chances for people out of town to get tickets, but it also puts thousands of people at 'the front of the line' for tickets. Tickmaster's site can handle thousands of requests at a time and including those in the front of 'real' lines and those on the phone, 10,000 or more tickets are spoken for within the first 30 seconds of ticket sales opening. Who would of thought we'd get to the day, that fat-fingering the scrambled word on the ticketmaster site could move you back 10 rows because other people didn't mess up.
Want a better chance, lobby for no internet/phone sales...tickemaster locations within 100 miles have first take and those further away have a 10 minute delay.
Also, while I'm rambiling on, many brokers are just that, they don't have the inventory that they advertise on their site, the just provide a place for people to move their tickets for a hefty service charge, usually getting a kickback from the buyer and seller. If peoople didn't buy the tickets just to sell, brokers would not exist. Sure, there are some brokers placing people in line and internet with cash and credit cards, but a majorty of excess inventory are coming from people looking to make a buck.

Back in the day you could always sleep out for tickets. Then as concerts became more in demand reselling tickets became more profiable. There have been many a concert that I was glad there were scalpers/ticket agents so I could get tickets to that show I had to see. I fed that which I hate.
I have forth row seats for Philly. My girlfriend and her two kids are so excited. Then I go to work and people start hearing that I have killer seats. Then come the $ offers. While the seats are pricless to me I went online just to see what scalpers were getting. I was amazed at what similar seats to mine were listed for!!! You start think to youself... sell my tickets and take the family to the Islands for a week. The prices are insane! I'm not a rich person and I'd be lying if I didn't say I was tempted. But I have waited for over 25 yrs for good seats to see Buffett so I'm sure I will withstand the temptation. But I can see where normal people turn to the darkside......

One year I bought two tickets for the Phillips show in Atlanta but then a friend of a friend got us into one of the luxury suites for free. We were partying with some folks in the parking lot before the show and when the conversation turned to where seats were, these two guys said they had no tickets. I gave them my two for $20 cause they were eating my shrimp.
Spread the luck, people!

If Jimmy were to have such a fan site where we would pay a fanclub membership and have first dibs at premo seats, some drastic steps would have to be taken in order to keep the scalpers from getting their paws on the fanclub tickets. Jimmy's people, the promoters, Ticket Master, ETC., would have to make it so that fanclub members would have to pick up their tickets at the box office the day of show, and they would have to bring the credit card used to purchase the tickets, your ID, and your first born child in order to pick up the tickets. Plus you would be limited to the total number of tickets you could buy, so you would have to use your ticket quota wisely. No matter how you slice it buying tickets would still be a challenge.

Im a member of the fort mill sc parrothead club and i dont like the fact that people say they are parrotheads and they try to scalp lawn tickets. if you are a true parrot head you would sell the extra tickets you have for face value. i may just have to get club seats for the shows in stead of lawn seats

[nods]...a couple of years back, I was on the receiving end of something like this. I had lawn seats to Shoreline, and someone in the parking lot offered me his extra ampitheater seats ($126 each) for $20 each. I got the one I needed.
If I had extras, I expect I'd pass 'em along at no more than face value. But then, sometimes I'm getting mine through our PHC, and I don't want to take unfair advantage of *that*.

I really don't know how the people on eBay sleep at night asking over $100 for a ticket that cost them $36 plus handling. That's just lousy. I've ended up with extra tickets in the past because of people who said they wanted to go and then when presented with the bill for the ticket said "Oh you got me a ticket?? Gee we realized we have something else that day" I've always, always sold them for face.
I'm trying to find 4 lawn seats for GW fpr some friends who got shut out and it's painful looking at what the going rate is.

I can't afford to go over $499.99. That's all I had budgeted.
Hope I have better luck next time....
