I still watch hogan's heros any time I can find it. He was very good.

Hogan's Heroes was a great show.

As far as I know, Dixon was the first heroic black role model on TV.

Black girls had "Julia" to look up to, but at a time when discrimination was still very much an every day thing, the boys had a strong, morally straight, dignified role model.

That's something that I hope his family is very proud of.

I'm only sorry that there aren't more StSgt. Kinchloes and Ivan Dixons for young black men to look up to today.

Sail on Ivan . . .

I always got a chuckle out of the fact that the show's writers obviously knew something about their country's aviation history (at least I think so).

Although I've never seen it written anywhere, I do believe Ivan's character's name was a tip of the hat to Korean war USAF ace and Bell X-2 test pilot Iven Kincheloe, who was killed in an F-104 crash in the late 1950s.
