Where to stay in Boston
A couple of Aussie parrott heads are heading to Boston for show at Tweeter Centre on 4th Sept (first ever visit to US). Where is good mid-range accommodation with easy access from airport & to concert venue. Also are there any pre-show activities? Contact Ed.

In Boston...The midtown is pretty reasonable....it's near the Pru and easy access to the T!!!...usually a lot cheaper staying outside of Boston!!aussiepirate wrote:A couple of Aussie parrott heads are heading to Boston for show at Tweeter Centre on 4th Sept (first ever visit to US). Well, the Tweeter Center is about 30 miles to the southwest of Boston so if you want to see the city of Boston, you would need to get a hotel room there and near Mansfield.aussiepirate wrote:A couple of Aussie parrott heads are heading to Boston for show at Tweeter Centre on 4th Sept (first ever visit to US). If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

2 years ago we went to Boston and stayed downtown at the Custom House - Marriott Vacation Club; they rent rooms like a hotel. They converted the old custom house. It sits right next to everything and is one block from the water. It also has an observation deck at the top which gives 360 views of Boston and beyond.aussiepirate wrote:A couple of Aussie parrott heads are heading to Boston for show at Tweeter Centre on 4th Sept (first ever visit to US). You can take a water taxi right from the the airport to the PierHouse dock (the Pier House is also a nice but more expensive hotel with run of the mill hotel rooms; the Custom House rooms are small apartments and very nice) and walk just over one block to the Custom House. We found this to be very cool and very inexpensive; buy a round trip ticket right from the boat captain.
As far as getting around town the "T" transit system is very easy to access from multiple locations all within a couple of blocks. We rented a car for only one day to go to the concert as the venue is about a 30-40 minute drive south of the city but easily navigated on the highway system. We didn't find a good public transportation way to get there.
We found a car rental location about 2 blocks from the Custom House that rents out of a small office located on the ground floor of a large parking garage; upon our return at 2:00 am we just entered the garage, parked the car, left the keys in the drop box and walked back to the room. We took a rolling suitcase full of our tailgate goodies, which worked out perfectly.
We had a great time and will certainly do it again.
Have a good trip!!

Also, one thing to remember, if you use a debit card, you would need to show your flight iteniary to rent a car in Boston. Plus, what happens is if the rental is less than $350, they will then take $350 out of your debit card then credit the difference once you return it.maufro wrote:2 years ago we went to Boston and stayed downtown at the Custom House - Marriott Vacation Club; they rent rooms like a hotel. The flight itinerary must be a new requirement. We booked it in advance and did not need to show anything but a d/l and cc.aeroparrot wrote:Also, one thing to remember, if you use a debit card, you would need to show your flight iteniary to rent a car in Boston. 1) I won't be there

your lawn is closer by a whole 20 miles... but i mean, for either of us that would be a long a$$ drive after a concert and knowing Kev, I'm sure his senses may be slightly impaired....popcornjack wrote:My front lawn is closer (not by much) but there are two problems:habourgirl wrote:hehehe.. . you said pitch a tent....Captain Morgan wrote:I'm bringing a tent to pitch on Harbourgirl's front lawn
