The Jays and Red Sox are supposed to play a spring training game today.
The Red Sox have refused to take the field because the coaching staff will not be paid an appearance fee for the Red Sox/Oakland A's trip to Japan. The Red Sox have also refused to board the plane to Japan if promises made are not kept.
No official word from the Oakland A's yet, but the red Sox are in contact with them.
And on a side note, They just did an interview with Jason Varitek on the situation, and the stadium had Margaritaville playing in the background.
Dumb and drunk as I was, you know I would do it all again.
I believe I heard them say on the radio that Oakland had also agreed not to go. But it sounds as if there was a resolution as they are now playing. I for one was happy to see the players take a stand for the little guy.
It was just reported on the radio (WEEI) that Rob Bradford and I believe they said Michael Silverman (2 of the Sox beat writers for the local boston papers) ask Chut Shilling if the players got what they wanted. Shilling sent a one word text message back "Yes."
I was listening to WEEI in my travels today.....the were suppose to play a exhibition game today against the Blue Jays...but refused to take the field if it wasn't resolved...i guess it got resolved around 1:00...and they played the game!!

Yep. At noon when the game was to start, both teams remained in their dugouts and Varitek held an on field press conference. Game started around 1:10
That's when the stadium played Margaritaville. You could easily hear it in the background during the interview. It was tough to listen to what Varitek had to say.
