I have a feeling people are going to start hating sting rays as much sharks sometime soon after this unbelievable occurrence in Marathon, Fl.

MIAMI (Reuters) - An eagle ray leaped onto a boat off the Florida Keys on Thursday and stabbed a woman with its barb, knocking her to the deck and killing her, a Florida wildlife investigator said.
"It's a bizarre accident," said Jorge Pino, an agent with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Well I'm glad I read that as I get ready to go to StingRay City in Grand Cayman......
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"
The CNN story does not say anything about the barb. It sounds like the she just died from the impact and hitting her head on the boat. The ray weighed 80 pounds with a 6 foot wingspan.

the ones there are not eagle rays and they are very tame and know they will be fed, go it's a great experience. it's especially funny, seeing everyone walking around in the water, it's only about 3-4 ft deep there.

yep, taking an 80 lb. missile to the head at 25 mph was gonna hurt, no matter what.
The story has been changed since that link was first posted. Initially it said the barb had pierced her neck but they were unsure whether she died from the head injury or the barb.

and that is a weird story
I HATED stingray city. I was freaked out the entire time. It is something I WILL NEVER do again. My husband on the other hand, love it!

I'm not too afraid actually....but when we went to Disney World many years ago, we swam in the tank with some very tame sand sharks....our (then 5 yr old keet) completely freaked out and climbed on her dad's back and screamed bloody murder.....unfortunately I laughed so hard I almost drowned......
