Was DB Cooper's parachute found?

Post by ph4ever »

Parachute May Belong to Famed Hijacker

By GENE JOHNSON – 1 hour ago

SEATTLE (AP) — Hoping to solve at least part of a 36-year-old mystery, the FBI is analyzing a torn, tangled parachute found in southwest Washington to determine if it belonged to famed plane hijacker D.B. Cooper.

Children playing outside their home near Amboy found the chute's fabric sticking up from the ground in an area where their father had been grading a road, agent Larry Carr said Tuesday. They pulled it out as far as they could, then cut the parachute's ropes with scissors.

The children had seen recent media coverage of the case — the FBI launched a publicity campaign last fall, hoping to generate tips on the unsolved highjacking — and they urged their dad to call the agency.

I just watched a clip on DB on the History Channel (I think it was the history channel) the other night. It was a 2 hour special on the 20 greatest unsolved crimes. Cool to see this article now.

there was a movie in the early 80's The Pursuit of D.B. Cooper which was actually about the hijacking

In 2004 there was a movie, Without a Paddle, that was about a group of people that go camping to find the lost money

"Without a paddle" is the funniest movie I've ever seen. I love it. I totally thought the DB Cooper part was movie fiction!

In 1980, a family on a picnic found $5,880 of Cooper's money in a bag on a Columbia River beach, near Vancouver. Some investigators believed it might have been washed down to the beach by the Washougal River. But if Cooper landed near Amboy and stashed the money bag there, there's no way it could have naturally reached the Washougal.
I remember when that was in the news. Love these stories where no one can figure out exactly what happened, but we're still getting clues almost four decades later.

I have a long overdue confession . . .

I am 'D.B.' Cooper.

I won't go into the details, but just to answer the BIG question first . . . I never jumped off the plane. That part was a set-up. A guy would have to be nuts to go off the back airstair of a 727. Like most pilots, I have a phobia about jumping out of perfectly good airplanes.

If I didn't jump, how did I get off the plane, you ask? Eventually, the same way everybody else did - through the 1L exit. Why get dramatic?

Finally, why didn't I get caught when I left the plane? That was the sweet part. Everybody was looking for a 'hijacker' named Cooper. Nobody was looking for a . . . well . . . I'll leave that part out.

As for the money, don't worry it was well spent . . . wine, women and . . . more wine and women . . . as the saying goes. 8)

Personally, I liked the Far Side cartoon, "What *really* happened to DB Cooper," which showed a parachute descending into a rottweiler farm...

yeah, it's little things like this that make me feel old.
