Relatively New PH here...

Post by NYParrotHead »

Two summers I found the sun and discovered JB while in Jamaica. Last year, took, my 11 YO "pseudo step daughter" to our first concert, the AC show! As much as we absolutely loved that show, she (and myself) were hoping to hear a few songs that he didn't play at that show: Jolly Mon, Grapefruit Juicy Fruit, Jamaica Mistaka, Fruitcakes, and We are the People......

Now, I wasn't expecting to hear all of them but was hoping for one or two of the above.

So now I pose this question since I just dropped a grand on 4 tickets to the AC show this year (but it is one week after my 40th BDay!). As I wait for the first setlist for the tour to be posted: Anyone's thoughts on any of those being played this tour?

Since this is a year without a new studio album, and License to Chill has thankfully played itself out of the setlist for the most part, you'll probably get more songs with a chance this year. Jolly Mon and Fruitcakes seem to show up a lot, but Jamaica Mistaica and We are the people, well you could go an entire PH career without lucking into them. Ya just have to be patient and keep trying. I was frustrated for the longest time trying to see Frankie and Lola live, but then in a craptacular indoor arena show in the middle of an Ohio Winter, bang, there it was.

Once Jimmy comes up with a set list it doesnt seem to sway very much from show to show. He played the same set in Anguilla as AC last year. Good luck, at least youll here Pirate looks at 40

Of the songs you mentioned, JB played them most recently:

Jolly Mon: 3x's in 2007
Grapefruit Juicy Fruit: 7x's in 2007, 1x in 2008
Jamaica Mistaica: 8x's in 2007
Fruitcakes: 5x's in 2007
We are the People: 5x's, in 2007, 1x in 2008

(And I was lucky enough to get to hear Jolly Mon, Jamaica Mistaica & We Are the People :D)
Some people never find it, some only pretend

I love Jolly Mon and I have been lucky enough to hear it several times. Last year included. I think You have a shot with 3 of the 5. Jolly Mon, Grapefruit, and Fruitcakes. I have seen a lot video for Fruitcakes a few times. Regardless.....you are bound to have a great time!! The year I turned 40 all I cared about was hearing "Pirate". I got my wish. :wench:

I have to agree with you on "Pirate" this year, feel fairly safe with that one!

Thanks everyone for putting in your two cents. It is gonna be a long summer waiting for the show LOL.

Most on that list I'd put in a "B" list category. None of them are considered "must plays", but if the set list construction holds true to form for an non-release year, I'd bet one of them makes it in.

I've heard them all live at some point, and I think they all are well known enough to keep the crowd into the show.

As long as he doesn't play Jolly Mon like it's on speed...... :o
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

Since there's no new album to support, this years set list is likely to be more wide open. Here's how I'd rate the chances based entirely on speculation:

1. Grapefuit JuciyFruit ........ good chance
2. We are the People ........ good chance
3. Fruitcakes...................... maybe 50/50
4. Jamaica Mistaca.............. small chance
5. Jolly Mon.........................small chance

What I would do is look at the set lists for the April shows on BN. That will give you an idea of what he is likely to play and you can prepare your minions properly. That is what I do for Newbies that come with me to a concert, I prepare them by playing them Buffett tunes that are likely to be played at the concerts. A review of the Set lists will also show that he does like to mix things up a bit.

On second thought, I think I'd lower Fruitcakes to small chance based on the lack of a complete horn section.

Too true. I have heard it that way and I would almost prefer to not hear it if it is played like that. A few of the live cds I have are like that. What's the rush? :wench:

hey, thanks!!!
You are most helpful!!!
I need to have you come to work with me, so when someone requests a destination that I have never heard of I can have you find it for me!!

I try to know the whole world....... but it is just impossible!!

My mind is like a computer, with a full memory. I would have to delete some stuff in order to remember some more.

Hey, at least my job never gets boring and redundant!!
