Looks like last year a large group was at Hooters. Will it still be Hooters by concert time this year?
Who knows about Hooters... Let me ask you this:
How long do you plan on staying in Vegas?
Do you like to gamble?
If the answers 4-5 days and you do like to gamble....then stay on the Strip - Anywhere from Harrah's - Tropicana or Mirage to Excalibur.
You will find prices all across the board. go to:
www.usairwaysvacations.com for an air and hotel combo - just to see what the pricing is like or try kayak.com
Many of us stay at Flamingo (I stayed there for 2 days and then the last 3 days at Hooters). I like Flamingo - it is fairly central on the Strip, M'vlle is there and the monorail is in back - which goes to MGM and across the street from Hooters. I have been to Vegas many times, I love it out there... but ask others and get their feel...I like to gamble, did not do much last time, but that is not the reason why I go - I just love it out there!
Welcome aboard - it will be a helluva ride!

I think our biggest question would be whether we would miss out on fun if we stayed at MGM or NY NY.
We'll be there probably 4 nights and have been to Vegas before but have been spoiled
by the Frisco Feeding Frenzy and want to be right in the middle of the fun.
MGM only really hosts the concert. Keeping yourself Mid-strip and south should keep you close to most anything.
There is a Parrothead Club member who is a licensed travel agent. He gets a great rate on a block of rooms somewhere - Last year Hooters was $99/night! You can't beat that. He will likely surface when the dates are official or LMS is solidified. Tropotravel is the company name.
Everyone has their favorite hotels for whatever reason but you only sleep there. Take whats important to you and go with it. There is a room there for everyone.
Casino Royale is on the strip and cheap. I've heard people stay there and for the purpose of sleeping and cheap gaming it fits the need. There is also a no-frills Travelodge on the strip. Don't feel you have to stay at a Casino . . . theres enough of them around you can stumble to one. I've stayed at America's Best Value Inn - next to Hooters/Across from MGM. Its a plain crappy motel room. It was $50 a night. I was able to sleep there no problems - the bathroom could have used some updating but I managed - the price was right.
Research research research . . . You can do it for cheap.

Thanks for all the advice. I just couldn't wait and booked
rooms at the Flamingo. I figure I can change later if something
better comes along.
So to get an idea of what we are in for, I've been reading last
year's "Who's going to Vegas posting"

I've been waiting for you to jump onto this thread you were somewhat of a organizer last year for the first show.

Life has been dealing me lemons the last few weeks . . . I need limes or strawberries for margaritas. I'm sorting through the trash and trying to get myself to my particular harbors again. I'll be surfacing again more soon.

For Hooters reservations and general info on what's going down at Hooters and the parties around the concerts, call Mike McLain at TropoTravel - 623-322-7649. His email is
tropotrav@earthlink.net. Rates look to be around $115 for Friday and Saturday nights. He also has the scoop on whats' up, and it's all sponsored by Landshark.
Just made my reservations for Thursday through Sunday - who's up for a good dinner and show Thursday nite???

Yup - also had a chat with him about what's happening at Hooters. Long term stuff, so really nothing should be affecting the main hotel area for at least 9 months or so, probably longer than that. Sounds like nice plans, but more of a boutique hotel, so don't know if we will be able to afford it then!
Also gave me the scoop on some of the entertainment for LMS and the After Concert Party. Same as last year, it looks like!

room tax, convention surcharge, tourist taxes - they all add up. since we don't vote in the local elections, they dump all sorts of extra taxes on us touristas
