It could only be even better if I were the school nurse of a small catholic school within a 10 minute drive of a FL or SC beach......
Did I mention 38 days until the end of school?

I think you might have mentioned 38 more days
Do I love what I do??
There are days I do and days I want to strangle a 4 year old.
Is this what I imagined myself doing when I was in college?
HELL NO
But, it's what I fell in to.
I really can't complain, I have a husband that makes a great living, so I only do my job for extra fun ticket $$.
I work about 4 hours a day, 3 days a week, and an understanding PH boss that lets me off whenever we need a roadtrip.

I used to work a tiki bar at the Galleon down in Key West. Was talking to a customer one day about how my inadvertent career path had taken me there. he looked out at the sunset, looked back at me and said "I think you got the best corner office in the world."

We won't be rich, don't worry about 401k's, IRA's, etc., 'cause tomorrow we might get hit by a Boar's Head cheese truck and all that we might have worried about wouldn't make shitforshinola difference anyway. We enjoy each day like it could be our last.

My 401k? The knowledge that there will always be a bar that needs a bartender.

Not to be a buzz kill because frankly I envy this attitude - but do you really want to be bartending/still working when you're 75?? I can only enjoy each day to the fullest knowing that subsequent days are being provided for in case that truck misses me!

God when did I become such an adult, I even bought long term care insurance this year!
This could probably get me disbarred from the PH Nation!
Do I want to be working at 75? No. Do I want to be working at 36? No. Could I have done lots of other things to insure I wouldn't have to work until I'm 75? Better believe it. Why didn't i do them? because I love my job.

No kidding?! I'm kind of caught looking at a similar thing right about now . . .

You're a lucky guy, I like my job but not enough to keep doing it much past the next 7 years or so. Like I said, I envy you guys who can pull this off. It may have to do with the fact that I have almost 20 years on you - although sometimes that seems impossible to me. I'm shocked every time I have to put my age on something.

My airline might not survive until I reach the 'magic number' (currently mandatory retirement at age 60 which seems very close right now) and I'm not sure what my pension is going to look like when the day arrives that I start collecting it.

My job sure isn't what it used to be.
If I still enjoy what I do it's only because aviation is like a disease - once it gets into your blood it isn't an easy thing to be quit of. But to complain about it when there are so many out there who are REALLY up against the wall would seem petty.
I have old friends that I don't get to see very often, flying on contract in just about every corner of this planet you could imagine. If my airline does go bust, I guess I might be joining them.
But yeah, I do love it. I wouldn't rewrite any of it.
Although a lottery win might be nice right about now . . .

Don't confuse my immatuity for young age.

I decided a long time ago to not let myself be unhappy. Life is too short and my feet are too itchy. It might be coming back to bite me in the a$$ though. When I was last looking for work, I applied for a few different places I was certainly qualified for, but didn't get interviews, and I know that has a lot to do with the # of jobs I've had and places I've lived. people think I'm a flight risk.

I like my job.
I do residential mortgages, not a great business to be in right now, but you have to take the good with the bad. I'm 100% commission, it's good when it's good and it's bad when it's bad. But, I really love it when I go to a loan closing with someone and they have tears in their eyes signing their papers for their first home, or when someone refinances and they save enough money to make a big difference is their lives

. I have never sold those sub-prime mortgages, and never will.
Doc likes his job, he's a graphic artist, and enjoys problem solving every day, my job is like that, too. We never know what we are going to find until we start our days.
That being said, if we were to hit the lottery, and that is a bit of a stretch, since we barely play, we would quit and travel the Caribbean, being bar flys

I most certainly do.
I was fortunate enough to have been born with an artistic talent,
and in pursuing it commercially, and now digitally, I get paid to do something that does not seem like work.
I'm not a rich man, by any means, but I can still afford Buffett tix, so.... there's proof of happiness eh?

Oh GOSH I would never question anyone's maturity (a 55 year old parrothead - are you kidding me???) By saying I have 20 years on you what I meant was as you get closer to retirement you think about this stuff more just because it's closer. I never meant to question your choices, I'm sorry if that's how it came off. I was sincere when I said I wish I were more relaxed when it comes to my future security and I DO envy you.

Like Jeanie, I'm a mortgage lender, which if you listen to the news is one step ahead of child molester.

While I don't really like my job and would rather be doing something else, with the way the economy is going and seeing so many people losing their jobs, I am very thankful for the job I have.
