Some great stories everyone. Now I'm really sorry I didn't go see JB before he made the "big time"........
Got to admit, the man got (and continues to get!) around........

Of course the last time he played there was '98.

I think that's the first time I saw him live

I know my son's first was at Philly CBP a few years back

For my son, since Philly, he has traveled to Pittsburgh, NYC, Connecticut, and Camden for concerts and he's only 9

He's my tailgate bud.

Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD.
J.B. hasn't been there since 2003. The grass "parking lot" was
drunk friendly.

JB's many years at Merriweather must have been a blast.......sometimes, I hear, playing 3 shows in a season.

South Park Meadows outside Austin...no longer there. There was a big ole gravel parking lot and a huge grassy hill and field and a stage with temporary flooring put down with folding chairs all linked together.
It was a great show in 1996---Banana Wind Tour.
Another unique place was
The Summit in Houston...was the
Compaq Center and is now the
Lakewood Church where Joel Osteen preaches. Jimmy could play there again and we could call it the Church of Buffett.
Most unique place I've seen Jimmy was when the Margaritaville Flamingo opened and Jimmy and the Coral Reefers played at the
Flamingo POOL. They filled that huge ole pool in with sand and everyone stood out on the sand to watch the show. It was a neat, neat setting with grotto and palm trees.
Best place I've ever seen Jimmy was when he played at the
Paramount Theater in Austin, TX...first time was with Jerry Jeff Walker at his BDB in 2002. Then again we saw him for the Kinky Benefit. Way great shows!!!
Texas Stadium Show wasn't half bad either.
In my dreams I've seen him play at Blue Heaven.

Hey Conch - I was at the South Park Meadows Banana Wind Tour show. I skipped a family reunion to go to the show. I like my Buffett family better.

Definitely most memorable 1981 I think..saw Jimmy at Blossom Music near Cleveland. Just before the concert, there was a storm of all storms. Thunder, lighting, no tailgating. About 10 minutes before showtime, the clouds part, sun comes out and the show goes on. We're on a hillside that is an absolute mudhole. A guy on a blanket right next to us was sliding down the hill in the mud...slipped, and broke his leg right in the middle of the shin.

THere was a big lump and it was twisted the wrong way....gagging all of us. He was screaming for a while....but after enough beer he calmed down. About an hour and a half later, the EMS came in a golf cart to get him...but so muddy they couldn't make it back up the hill.
We all pushed...the rest is history.
Oh...and by the time the EMS came...the guy was so drunk he couldn't have walked even if his leg wasn't broke!

Well, I know those sodas will do it to ya, but we saw him there a BUNCH of times, and I swear(!!!) he said he was BORN near Blossom... REALLY!!

But... maybe he said he spent summers there because his grandparents (some family) lived nearby??? Come on Ohio Parrotheads, help me out here!! I swear I wasn't hallucinating....
My daughter & I went to Merriweather one year to see Buffett, because every other concert was a conflict... did NOT love it... couldn't see a thing! But, the tailgating WAS very good! Maryland Parrotheads were very good Phriends! Now we go in Philly, 'cause that's where my daughter lives. We don't see Buffett here in Buffalo... not since at Shea's in 1979! Now that was fun, but still love Blossom best!

i was there!
stepped in a mud puddle, and it went up to my knee, lost a flop and walked around the rest of the day bare foot.
Judy and I were there , too!
We were guest of the owner of the venue because of problems the years before(Our seats didn't exist when we got to the venue.)
The next April he called with complimentary tickets to the show. Told us how to get to Buckeye Lake easily from Cleveland. We drove down into what was 2 hurricanes that came together over southern Ohio at Buckeye Lake.
We weren't going to stay. I went to tell Hank La Conti ,thank you but no thank you, we were going home and promply got stuck up to the axles of the car in mud!!!

A brand new WHITE BUICK! We had to be pulled out by a state of Ohio , wrecker!
He had us park behind the stage on high ground and gave us access to the VIP tent and left us.
For 3 hours of standing and dancing in what was tantamount to a warm shower!
Jimmy came out and said , "I brought Tropical weather to Ohio, 2 hurricanes!"
When we left, and were driving home, we stopped at a rest stop to "rest"!
Judy went into the Ladies room and there were 3 young ladies trying to wash off all this mud! Judy said, " oh you saw Jimmy at Buckeye Lake, we were there too. "The girl said OMG why aren't you covered in mud, TOO
Oh Jimmy, ALL the good times!
Jimmy did ALL day festival at Buckeye Lake. Capacity was 55,000 people!

They herded you throught turnstiles like cattle!
I was there too

That's a great video...anyone know if they ever put it on DVD? I remember back in the late 70's or early 80's seeing that concert on PBS and thinking Wow, that guy cool. I wanna go there....

You know, I've read all his books and most books about him...I don't recall any connection to Ohio except the birthplace of Parrotheads.....

The Robin Hood Dell East (I don't even know if it's still there) Back in the late 70's early 80's. Great little place in the woods.
Then a little later he moved across the river (Schuylkill that is) played the Dell West (Mann Music Center) this was a really cool pavilion great wood roof and a huge side lawn area under the stars.
The first time I saw him was the last time he played the Mann.
A friend of mine saw him at the Main Point in Bryn Mawr, she just happened to be there one night when Jimmy was playing there...that goes way back...would have loved to be there for that!

Timberwolf at Kings Island in Cincinnati. Tickets were $5.00 if you had a season pass (which were only $25-30). No lawn. Much better sound than Riverbend. Plus, you got to ride rides all day. Pretty awesome tailgating idea back in the day. Oh yeah, there were real tailgates in the parking lot. I went to a show one night, then the next night just sat in the parking lot and listened to it. Pretty awesome!
