Twenty-five years ago this woman I'm with agreed to marry me (I still don't know why - she could have had anybody she chose).

I determined long ago to never give her a reason to reconsider. I cook. I clean. I listen. I give good back rub. Whatever it takes. I'm not the best, but I do my best.

My advice to any young guy just starting out is this: cook, clean, listen and give good back rub - you'll be a very happy man.

Oh and don't forget this: you will have to kill the occasional spider . . . :)

Bingo.
Hockey Mon wrote:Studies like this just annoy me; what don't they take that time and energy and doing something useful for community, environment, etc.[smilie=pimp.gif]
They annoy me, too, since there's a good chance my tax dollars pay for them.

You wanna be really annoyed? Between $1.5 million and $13.8 million of your tax dollars are going to be spent on this:
SUMMARY The Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL) announces a Request for Proposals from organizations interested in submitting proposals to support technologies that will maximize freedom of expression and the free flow of information and ideas through minimizing the success of repressive technologies in censoring and silencing peaceful expressions of political, religious, and ideological views on the Internet. These technologies should be either Internet-based technologies that can directly counter Internet censorship tools, or mobile technologies that circumvent Internet censorship by disseminating information through other media. Proposed activities should promote Internet freedom in restricted environments, including the Middle East and Asia.

Or how about $470,000 for this:
Funding Opportunity Description The U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL), Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB), announces the availability of funds to be awarded by Cooperative Agreement (hereinafter referred to as “grant” or “Cooperative Agreement”) to one qualifying organization to support job placement of PWDs [persons with disabilities] in the Costa Rican labor market
I'd sure rather see AMERICANS with disabilities be trained with half a million of my tax dollars.

Yep, pet peeve, misuse of my tax dollars.....

I've been doing housework and chores ever since I can remember, married or not.

I take care of household stuff because I choose to, cause I want things the way *I* want them. E helps, when I need/ask him to. My son takes care of his own room/laundry and takes out the trash, empties / loads dishwasher when asked.. or asked twice. ;)

I really don't know if I have seven hours a week more work......

but I do know that I get more phone calls that say, "I was thinking about you, what are you doing?"

I get more "Mom, you look so pretty today..."

I get more "Screw housework, let's just go for a long ride."

I get more laughter, more joy, more love, more companionship than I could have ever hoped for in my life.

If that means I have to unload a dishwasher or wash a load of dirty undies.....small freaking price to pay for all that.

In my house, unfortunately, it's definitely not all about me.......

Once I was gone for a week (for work), and my sons literally didn't notice....

It's not so much ungrateful.... I think it's their self-defense mechanism.... probably grew out of that little event in the fall of 2001 when I left for a year on two weeks notice..... :-?

It is sometimes amusing, though.....

Cell phone rings, I answer.

Son #2: Mom? Can you pick me up from track?

Me: Son, call your father. I'm in Wisconsin.

Jeez . . . that stinks. Seems like smacks in the head be in order. Nothing is more important that appreciating the love we have and being thankful for it everyday. But . . . teenage boys can live in their own world. No excuse though.

My wife and I very rarely fight, and I like to think that's a lot to do with my input. She's a hot blooded Italian, and grew up mostly with her Mom after her parents divorced. So she fought for everything in her life. I have never been much of a fighter with those I care about, if it's important to them it's important to me. And, early on, I always felt I never wanted anything bad I said to be the last thing I said to someone I love. (Who knows what tearjerker movie or country song left that mark on my childhood) Anyway, she's now adopted much of that same feeling. There aren't many things important to fight over if people are considerate of each other.

Anyway, EVERYONE should be appreciated in a relationship and nothing should ever be taken for granted. A certain morning in September of 2001 should have reminded everyone of that.
