I don't think the Jets and Patriots are much of a rival. These days it is Patriots-Colts.

On Sunday, 2 of the biggest rivals will be playing at the same time, in the same city a mere 2 miles away.

Yankees @ Red sox and Canadians @ Bruins, both Sunday night in Boston.

The obvious example is Yankees/Red Sox that serves as the base for Pats-Jets and though I wouldn't call the Knicks and Celtics or Rangers/Islanders and Bruins rivals, I don't think there will be many Knicks fans rooting for Boston in the play-offs or many Bruins fans rooting for the Rangers. And I'm not sure what it's worth, but as a Yankees fan, I refuse to date a Red Sox fan. That's gotta count for something with rivalries.

Also, you know it's a good rivalry when you get fantasy sports owners refusing to take players from the rival team. Of course, the seasoned players learn to deal with it, but you hate getting stuck, especially late in the season, choosing between rooting for your Yankees (just an example) or rooting for Josh Beckett to pitch well because your fantasy team is in the play-offs.
Bruins arch rival would be Montreal.
Thanks for setting that straight. :)
Right, even though the Rangers and Bruins aren't rivals at all, I'm sure there aren't many Islanders fans hoping the Bruins do well.

Cubs vs Cardinals

Bears vs (fudge)Packers

It may not be a national thing, but the "War On I-74" Illinois State vs Bradley is as intense as any rivalry out there. My last actual fist fight was outside Robertson Fieldhouse in Peoria, when I mistook a pickup truck with Bradley fans inside, for a empty beer can recepticle. They got mad, Go figure. (that was about 28 years ago btw)

In the NBA, I would say the Celtics vs. Lakers would be top.

Other rival would be Cubs vs. Cards in MLB.

If it is a Celtics-Lakers NBA Finals it will be even bigger because Phil Jackson will be going for Red Auerbach's record.

That is true. What is it 9 or 10 the record?

I'd have to look but I think they are tied for most championships won with 9 as a coach. But as Red Auerbach always pointed out back then he did it all, coach, GM, drove the bus and won a combined 16 as a coach and GM and Red always made sure everyone knew that  .

I would be shocked if Red didn't tell anyone this.

We are about to head in to one of the biggest rivalries you will ever see .. it has already started.

With our football - a lot of the players still play for the town/city etc they were raised in ..... some move around for the $$$.

We have "state of origin" football each year - best of three games.

The best players from my state - to play for the state - you have to have been from here (eg born, played first footy) plays against those originally from Queensland.

PLayers are playing for the "home" state ........ its an amazing concept - really raises the level the game ...... for the players and the supporters and of course we hate the Queenslanders as much as they hate us ...

Apparently, rivalries are worse than they've ever been:
A woman accused of running down a man in her car after a Red Sox-Yankees argument in a bar never hit her brakes as she accelerated toward the small group he was in, a prosecutor said Monday.

"She never braked, and she accelerated at a high speed for about 200 feet. She went directly at this group of people," prosecutor Susan Morrell said of Ivonne Hernandez, who is charged with reckless second-degree murder in the death early Friday of Matthew Beaudoin, 29.
