This is me with Jake S. last May.....
.....and this is me, a total of 50 pounds lighter....with my daughter at the zoo, THIS May!
Conga-rats Paige! Lookin' good!
I remember when I hit 50 pounds I had tears of joy
Oky I have to get back on this and I have to stay on track this time. No gain but no loss either. I know I have to lose at least 50 pounds. I need to get it off before it starts to really affect my health. It is a real shot to my self-esteem everytime I look in the mirror or see a picture of myself. So, I am posting here again in hope that I will get re-commited to getting the weight off and sticking to it.

Sliding into this thread. I'm starting "Medical Weight Loss" diet tomorrow. I'm under contract to lose 43 pounds.
This should be interesting. Right in time for two Thanksgiving dinners....one with my family and one with hubby's.
My doctor prescribed a new medication for my triglycerides and after reading about the possible side effects I said that is it....I've got to lose this weight. So I wrote him a letter asking for a delay on starting that drug until I see him in the spring ...hopefully 40 lbs lighter and with lower triglycerides.
So wish me luck....

GOOD LUCK, NANCY!! I'm seeing the doc in a few weeks for the same thing... Weekends are difficult with food management, but I can do my best during the week.
Good Luck!
You can do it....and really, a 10% drop in body weight can make a huge difference in BP and everything else!
Seven months ago I was on four different medications for BP and cholesterol....I'm down to ONE right now and hope to get off that one at my next appointment!
I'm going to a support group meeting next week and the topic is "How to Survive the Holidays".....I'll bring back whatever they tell us!

I am going to go back and read this thread for some inspiration. I have scanned a bit and looks like you have had a great success! One of my downfalls in my gaining was 'riding to eat'. Seems like everytime we went on a motorcycle trip it was to some great little out of the way place with great food. How do you handle that???
After we wrecked our bike, I really started putting it on and have not found a way out yet. Maybe I will find some inspiration here and get back on track!
Today is Day three and the last day of the initial phase of my plan. This phase was very restrictive and I won't be sorry to be done with it. I've lost 3 pounds so far.
Yesterday I received the plan for the next four months. It looks pretty brutal...but I can do it. I'm not much of a cook and there are NO convenience foods on this list. No canned food and no pre frozen food. Everything is fresh. I'm sure this is better for me...but I'm going to have to learn how to make stuff...rather than warm or open stuff.
The hardest part will be driving across town for weigh ins 3 times a week during the winter
This week they have me coming in for a weigh in every day...and to get any questions about what I need to do out of the way.
Nancy, here are a few things that have really helped me.....some of them sound stupid, but really....it works....I'm down 70 pounds....20-30 more to go!
1. Use a smaller plate to serve your food (sounds stupid, but I swear it works). Divide it in half....fill half of the plate with veggies (yes, the good fresh stuff, like steamed broccoli)...quarter with protein....quarter with a complex carb...like whole grain pasta, sweet potato, brown rice....I also bought some little custard cups/bowls and that's what I eat cereal out of instead of a regular bowl.....even if you fill it twice, it's still less than most regular cereal bowls.
2. Eat the protein FIRST....protein will give satiety longer than anything else and it's the most important building block. Losing weight takes some things out of your body, make sure you have enough protein to building it back up!
3. EAT SLOWLY......seriously, this was so hard for me. Now, I take a bite...put the fork down...chew the food....then take another bite. I was a food shoveler....I would eat so fast that my body didn't have time to register that I was full and I would over eat consistently.
4. Realize that there is a difference between FULL and NOT HUNGRY. The point is to eat when you're hungry and stop when you're NOT HUNGRY. Eating until we are FULL is what makes our butts big.
5. DRINK a lot........of non-caffeinated, non-carbonated beverages. Water is the best, but I've become a crystal light girl. I also like the Special K protein water.....it has fiber and protein in a drink.....and tastes good....BONUS!
Once you start losing, you will get more motivated to stay with it. You will feel better and BONUS, look better! Aside from the obvious changes in my body, my skin is better, my hair is better (after a brief rough patch), and of course, feeling better shines through everything!
I really can avoid *most* temptations now.....just knowing that I've gone from a size 20 (UGH, I said that out loud) to a size 12 is motivation to avoid a lot of stuff.
BE BRAVE......I'm happy to post here, or PM me anytime!!

Good lukc, Nancy!
Weight loss is never easy. I always feel so deprived! Not from hunger...but from restricting what I want!
I am a spoiled brat...I dn't like to hear the wrod NO...even when it is me saying it to mysefl!
I'm trying to look at Thanksgiving as ONE DAY.....I'm going to enjoy myself, but it's not going to be the four day feeding frenzy that it usually is.
Of course, for me there are some usual things that won't work anymore. I'm mourning that a little bit.....funny, how food has such cultural and emotional attachments......sometimes I wish we could be more like the animals and just use it for fuel and that's all.
