A friend of mine had a recorded version of this song that I can no longer find. (I believe he got if off of limewire.) According to the database, JB only played it once in concert, at the Exit/In in Nashville in (I believe it said) 1974. The version I heard was live, and he mentions the songwriter Michael Murphy at the beginning. Does anyone know where I can get a copy of it? I had forgotten about it for years and only in the last few days had I gotten stuck back in my head--took me three days just to remember the song title. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Yes, I love this song as well. Jimmy certainly did a great job with it. I have searched all of Michael Murphys' albums. I found no record that he ever recorded his own song.
If Jimmy Buffett didn't sing it at the Exit Inn back in 1974. This excellent song would be lost forever!

There is information about Michael Murphey writing the music and words for Kenny Rogers on "Kenny Rogers and The First Edition The Ballad of Calico."
This album is only on vinyl and was never pressed on CD, so it's pretty rare. I tried to buy it once, but the bidding got out of my range.
I saw the title to this thread and thought the discussion was about my bedroom.

I found a copy of The Ballad of Calico on double vinyl and Doyle Grisham is credited with pedal steel..so another connection to Jimmy singing "One Lonely Room."
