my two cents
i could care less what songs he plays
as long as he plays them
i'm a somewhat new parrothead
will be going to only my 3rd 4th and 5th concerts ever this year
taking my keets to the ac show in aug also just the wife and myself to philly and msg shows
he could play the same songs show after show and if i'm there i'm not at work!!!
that makes it all worthwhile
so lets all just enjoy the music

You missed an incredible show! Read the setlist!Glorfindel7 wrote:When you think about it it's likely that Jimmy doesn't even LIKE to do those songs every concert (that's why the album is "Songs You Know By Heart".
(Oh well missed the first one tonight, was flying in from vacation...)

That's a problem in America today. We think that we are entitled or justified to something that suits our tastes.
What about those whose feel entitled to hear the songs from the yellow album because they have a connection to those songs? What about Jimmy being entitled to play what he thinks will be a good show, because he is the performer, has paid his dues, and seems to know what he's doing based on attendance and ticket prices?
You may want Jimmy to play a different set list (which is perfectly fine and a great opinion to have), but I don't see how you are entitled.
I'll leave it at that.
Very well put Scott!! This country is filled with WAY TOO MANY people who feel the are ENTITLED to SOMETHING!!!!
There are songs i would love to hear and some not so much but i have a great time at the shows and enjoy it while it is lasting!!!

Well said and I agree.
As I've said before and will proudly say again......I'd listen to the man sing the phone book and enjoy it immensley.
I heard the show tonight and thought it rocked!
We all have phavorite songs. I have my top 10 list of phavorite Buffett songs. Sometimes the majority of them make the set list and sometimes they don't. Either way, I've enjoyed each of the shows and will continue to enjoy them no matter what the set list it.
To me it is about the performance as much as the actual songs. I really enjoy his performancs and stage presence. That is why he could sing the phone book and I'd love it.
I've never felt as a fan he has owed me anything. But what he has given of his talent I consider to be a blessing in my life.
Find Your Passion and Make It Happen
First show of the 2008 tour and "this topic" comes up already....unbelievable.
Certainly we all have our own favorites, as does Jimmy. Bottom line: JB has paid his dues and after 30 years of touring will play what is fun for him and what he thinks the majority of his fans want to hear.
Plain & simple: Just Jimmy being Jimmy.......
Just be happy JB continues to tour so we can have these "discussions", OK?

The funny thing is that none of us agree on what is a "good" song
So there's no way to please us.....
During the set list last night someone said they disliked Tiki Bar is Open. I love that one! I groaned when he played Scarlet Begonias. Several people said it was their favorite cover.
Jimmy just needs to play what he likes. He's bound to hit some or our favorites and some of our "not so much" choices....but then again those "not so much" for me will be someone else's fav....

Re: Justification For Demand For A Better Set-List
jbfins wrote:I understand why Jimmy routinely plays the SYKBH and same covers at every show. It makes for a great show and that is what he wants to give the audience. Would he get booed off stage like he thinks he would if a show was all ballads, probably not, but the shows sure wouldn't have the energy they do, which he and the band seem to feed off.
I also understand the argument that I should be grateful for any show he still plays. (I don't necessarily agree with this point, but I acknowledge the argument to appease those of you who say that he can do no wrong.)
So, how do I justify my demand for a better set-list. Simple. I, as many of us have, bring people to the show. And some of those people have gone to other shows and started their trip down parrothead lane. Thus, I have contributed to his financial success. I have promoted him, shamelessly.
As a reward for my hard work, I have no problem saying that I am entitled to a set-list that has one or two different songs, that he wrote, per concert. I do not think that it is too much to ask.
I'm just glad I get to go see him play for another year. For me, half the fun is tailgating and then to the concert. I enjoy all the setlists from year in to year out.
What would they do if made no landfall
