The "Hey Jimmy, take Glory Days and..." thread

Please fill in the blank. Hopefully Jimmy and/or his people read this and he can get the message. It's embarrassing how he sings this song, especially the opening verse. It's like he can't read the words fast enough from the teleprompter.

I'm so glad he continues to tour, but it's literally painful to listen to him "sing" this.

Your thoughts?

Peace,
Mr Positive

My contempt for Jimmy's take on this song knows no bounds...HOWEVER,
my understanding is that Bruce's longtime keyboard player - and I feel like you-know-what for not knowing his name - but my understanding is that he passed away from cancer. So, I'm thinking Jimmy knows how most of us feel about the song, but I think it was a tribute to "Danny".

In that light, I can't be angry...

Otherwise, let me grab some gasoline to throw on the fire....

Agreed. I think that's why he played it.

I could have sworn I heard him say something tonight about passing danny in the song, not sure, but it fits with me.... probably why he sang it tonight..

Sorry you don't like Jimmy's version of Glory Days. Have to admit that he sounds kind of rough on it sometimes, but IMNSHO, on occasions he really rocks it. It sure sounded good at Tinley Park last year. :D :D

Going to see him in St. Louis this week and kind of hope he plays it there.

see.. this is one of those songs I don't mind that he covers. Now, if he would stop playing Scarlet Begonias, and never tries to do a Dave Mathews Band or Jack Johnson song again...

my thoughts on SB are tainted from the 3-4 song preview of "License to Chill" from M'ville right after they finished work on the album. Jimmy showed up, 4 sheets to the wind.. and this was one of the songs he mangled after doing the "one bottle of tequila and 3 straws" wrapup. Try as I might, I can't hear that song without hearing him screeching and sliding thru notes (badly). Uncle John's Band as a Dead cover.. sure. This one.. bag it, tag it, and plant it out back in the woods under cover of night

It is my sense of morbid curiousity that makes me ask: "What's that?"

Were they close? Penpals? Worked together? It's a horrible cover and I am glad i missed it. If he plays it again this tour I'll be missing the Vegas show this year.

Covers..... a topic that draws a lot of responses. As for Glory Days, I'm going to be in the BIG minority and say I like the way he does it. But I don't go to a Buffett concert to hear everyone else's music..!!!! And while I'm at it, I DON'T want to hear Scarlet Begonias either. I want to hear Buffett music.

I love it how so many BNers look for the "good" in things. :)

Glory Days was totally enjoyable to me at the concert. All those guitars were wonderful.
