May try to attend this show. I had a question though for people familiar with the area and who may have gone to this festival before. Assuming the concert ends at 7:00 like advertised, would it be possible with traffic and everything to make a flight at the Providence Airport that departs 9:45 that (Sunday) night? Thanks for the help.

That'd be *really* tight.... the traffic will be awful: one road in and out of the venue, and then you have to get around downtown Newport to get to the bridge to get to the airport. Without ANY traffic it would take you 45 min to an hour to get from Fort Adams to the airport, so I think you're looking at closer to two hours for the trip.... :-?

***PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT***

For visitors unfamiliar with the Newport area. DON'T SPEED! The police in this area are utterly unforgiving; five miles over the limit gets you a minimum $85 ticket and in many cases a court appearance. They know you're coming, and they watch the approaches to Newport like hawks on Fridays and Sundays.

Coming into Newport from the west, the speed limit on Rte 138 on Jamestown Island is only 40 MPH, despite being a divided highway.

Coming into Newport from the north, the speed limit on Rte 24 is 50 MPH and on Rtes 114 (West Main Rd) and 138 (East Main Rd) speed limits vary from 25 MPH to 45 MPH. Most of West Main (the usual route when coming off Rte 24) is 35 MPH. THere have been fatalities on East and West Main, and the police don't give warnings....

It's been almost 20 years since I was there. Is Thames St. the one down by the waterfront with al the bars?

that would be Thames Street. Very fun. America's Cup BLVD is next door to it and fun as well . . . I think in all of New England, Thames is the most fun on a warm night to bar hop when live bands are playing.

If I attend the concert it looks as if I'll have to stay until Monday. Will this street be hoppin' even on a Sunday night? (If not where's the after-party?)

every night. rain or shine. from Memorial Day to about Christmas. Especially August. The only difference between Thames Street in Newport and Duval in KW is you have to hide you liquor so bring a flask (unless you are rich enough to get drunk off a 4$ beers) and the girls are actually under 30 and attractive beyond the locals who work there (no offense ladies) and love sailors and the lifestyle so live it up . . . as Jimmy says . . . its time to lighten up this harbor town!
