How long does it take you to prepare a unit plan, complete with lessons? I'm doing my first and it's been taking me forever. I keep making changes and finding errors. Yikes.

Wifey-poo is a teacher as well......sounds like you are on track....it gets easier each time....as you learn your resources and how to use/organize them.....OceanCityGirl wrote:How long does it take you to prepare a unit plan, complete with lessons? Yup. My first year, it took me a couple of hours each night. Got a lot quicker with experience.Dutch Harbor PH wrote:Wifey-poo is a teacher as well......sounds like you are on track....it gets easier each time....as you learn your resources and how to use/organize them.....OceanCityGirl wrote:How long does it take you to prepare a unit plan, complete with lessons? Just DO NOT let yourself become one of those teachers whose lesson plans have turned yellow from age (using 'em again and again and again each year.) Keep striving to improve!

Getting ready to retire after 32 wonderful years of teaching!! At first a whole unit (I taught French, then) would take 3-4 sessions of 2-3 hours, but kruzin is right; when you have been through the material and you get the accompanying extension activities figured out and narrowed down, you get quicker.
I absolutely concur about mixing it up a little and not doing the identical thing year after year -- Keep it FRESH!
(and SOME people think our day is only 6 hours long!!!!!!!!!! Sheeesh!)

Re: Teachers
What grade level are you teaching? I teach high school, and have taught middle school. But I'm probably not the person to ask about lesson plans. I haven't written any since Feb.OceanCityGirl wrote:How long does it take you to prepare a unit plan, complete with lessons? I'm doing my first and it's been taking me forever. That's an awesome accomplishment, especially since you refer to it as "wonderful."
What will you do when you retire?
