I hate hospitals and nursing homes! I have a really hard time going into them and if I actually do, I am uncomfortable the whole time and I won't sit down anywhere.

Love 'em. Can't get enough of 'em. Circus is coming to town in a couple of weeks, can't wait.blackjack wrote:Clowns.

I used to be afraid of the dark as a kid, especially what might be under the bed (used to imagine large land dwelling lobster type things--probably explains why I don't eat lobster) until one day I decided that, whatever was under my bed, instead of being there for bad reasons, it was there for good ones, to protect me and keep me safe. Being in a dark room still creeps me out a bit, but I know it's because of me imagining what might be there, so I just take a deep breath, and imagine something good.
Or I scream like a schoolgirl, wave my arms like a muppet and run like my hair is on fire and my a** is catching until I find daylight.
Take me for what I am, a star newly emerging.
I accept the new found man, and I set the twilight reeling.

Cool thread, by the way.
Lessee.... first, I don't mind heights, being in or under the water, bugs, spiders, or clowns. (well, maybe I mind clowns just a little...
)
Snakes (any kind, any size) scare the living freak out of me. (Actually killed one with a chainsaw once - it was the only tool handy.
)
Don't like heights where there's a fair chance I may fall - rickety ladders, awkward places where the ladder has to be too steep. S'pose that's relatively normal, though.
And I absolutely HATE having to "share rides." It's not so bad if it's my car and I'm driving, but if I have to ride with someone else (non-family, non-spouse), I'll usually find some reason I can't leave at the same time and therefore must drive myself. And I don't think it's just a preference... I experience the same kind of physical reaction I get from seeing a snake.
Oddly enough, though, airplanes, taxis, subways and buses don't bother me.![umm2 [smilie=umm2.gif]](./images/smilies/umm2.gif)
Gotta be some kind of Freudian deal going on here.....![graytard [smilie=graytard.gif]](./images/smilies/graytard.gif)

My worst fear is driving off a bridge into a body of water and not being able to get out of my car.
I never drive in the outside lane if going over a bridge. If I am a passenger I am gripping the "oh sh*t" handles with my eyes closed tight.
This is the Talmadge Memorial Bridge in Savannah.....since they finished it in the early 90s I have been DEATHLY afraid of going over it.

There is also this bridge that goes between St. Augustine and Orange Park in Florida that is about a foot or two off the water......I made a wrong turn and had to go over that bridge at night.....I nearly pee'd my pants before I made it to the end!

I went over that bridge myself last year and could not believe how long it was. The good thing is that it was four lanes, so to alleviate your fears, you've got two choices of lanes to get into to avoid being on the inside.

I too have a fear of the bridge just ending and falling into the water.
Dally, do you remember the old Cooper River Bridge in Charleston? My husband always had to drive cause I could never cross it with my eyes open. The new one is better but still scary!

I used to be afraid of bridges. Then I moved to RI.... You don't drive over a bridge, you don't leave the island.... So I got used to it....

I'm an anxious person to begin with, so have a lot of fears... flying, spiders, the dark, bad storms...
... but after a coworker's daughter was murdered in her own locked apartment in broad daylight last month, I am terrified of being in the "wrong place at the wrong time," whether it be at home or at work. I woke up at 3 a.m. a couple of weeks ago, analyzing which would be the best route to take out of my cubicle at work if the last person who was fired came in with a gun (she was psycho that way).

I've driven over these 2 bridges many times for 20 years of vacationing in Newport, RI.......SchoolGirlHeart wrote:I used to be afraid of bridges. Then I moved to RI.... You don't drive over a bridge, you don't leave the island.... So I got used to it....

Absolutely great views of Narragansett Bay, Jamestown, Newport. Love the view going in to start vacation, dread the view heading for home!
