and welcome back DKD.....
I'm very afraid of heights, however, put me on a plane and I'd go anywhere, I even want to ride in a helicopter some day, and once in a while I entertain the thought of sky-diving, then on that one I come to my senses
I was practically raised on boats, but I do not EVER want to go on a cruise.
and I get really really nervous going over bridges, I have certain routines for certain bridges, and yet...........all those bridges to Key West didn't bother me one little bit
I think that's it for now.

Did you get hit by a rogue wave ???

Being sooooooooooooooooo far away from land, and the size of some of the waves

yet put me on a plane, let me crash in the middle of the ocean, and hey......I'm ok with that

I'd rather you didn't crash into the middle of anything! I'm quite fond of you!

I believe in confronting my fears so I try to take #3 head-on every year. It usually works out okay.

Thanks for being so super serious!

Maybe my fear is being too serious....
I've been trying to think of the distinction between what I fear and what I dislike doing. For example, I dislike public speaking. Do I fear it? If I had to do it I would but I'm not going to go volunteer for it. A toastmaster class would probably help that. Hospitals is another one. Pre-kids, most of my hospital experiences have been going to see grandparents/family members/friends die. I don't fear them per sea, I don't like going.

I think i would rather have it while i am already in the water. Seems like there would be less injury, you just ride it in to shore and your saved

I believe many of our fears are about control. We're not really afraid of the particular substance as much as that it represents a loss of control on our part for that point in time when we're around it.

How high of heights? What is your tolerance? Can you be in a high rise building and be comfortable? I had a former boss who wouldn't get on a step ladder because she was TERRIFIED of heights.
It all depends on the environment and my experience with where I am. I can build up a tolerance/confidence to certain spots if I am around them enough. Most staircases where you can see between the steps like at a mall pose a problem. Looking out above a 10th floor window of a building is bad and being 3 stories up in a glass elevator scares me. Roller coasters don't bother me sometimes except for the slow climb to the top since I'm moving very fast. I also can't look up when I'm in a room with a high ceiling such as a cathedral or or if I'm at the base of a tall building, I can't look up at the top. My worst was on a hanging bridge in Costa Rica. I was in a position where I didn't have much of a choice but to cross it. I got dizzy and started having a hard time breathing half way across and almost passed out on the bridge.
Even just watching a video like this makes me VERY uncomfortable.

Not sure this is a rational or irrational one, but I fear my children dying.
I know, I know, it's a horrific fear... and just verbalizing it fills me with anxiety, but that's the BIG ONE for me.

I'm pretty claustrophobic, and I'm ascared of heights, too. And poisonous critters.
