I have heights and bridge issues as well.

Crossing the Mackinac Bridge to the UP is quite an adventure. The majority of the time we cross there is a message on the radio saying that "due to high winds in the straits area......"

They sometimes close the bridge. Most times they don't...I have pictures of a crossing we made when the waves were washing across the approach to the bridge :o We had an Explorer with a canoe on the top at the time. They made us pull over before going across to check that the canoe was attached securely. We were told to follow a semi and go no faster than 20 MPH.

If any of you have ever crossed this bridge, you know it is very high...and one of the longest suspension bridges in world.

It is beautiful to look at. Crossing it scares a lot of people. They actually have people standing by to "rescue" people who panic while crossing and need someone to drive them across.

I have NEVER driven across. I'm always the passenger leaning toward the middle of the car and gripping whatever is handy in a death grip

I can't imagine an accident and not being able to get out...I'd walk out.

It almost makes me sick to watch this youtube of it.

Woo hoo for Angie. :D I've always wanted to do the walk across. Which everyone thinks is crazy since I'm afraid of it in the car. Somehow it seems less dangerous to me with my feet on the ground

I grew up within eyeshot of that thing! Used to walk it every single labor day. I never had a problem, but I couldn't drive through the middle of it, and when I walked it, I couldn't walk the middle, as it's got the grating. just gives me the heebies thinking about it!
But it's GORGEOUS. And I miss the sight of it in the morning. *sigh*
//misses home

ALSO - Here's some facts about the bridge :

The Mackinac Bridge is currently the third longest suspension bridge in the world. The bridge opened to traffic on November 1, 1957.

The Mackinac Bridge is the longest suspension bridge in the western hemisphere. The total length of the Mackinac Bridge is 26,372 feet. The length of the suspension bridge (including anchorages) is 8,614 feet.

nutmeg - If you find those pictures, I'd totally be interested in seeing them. :)

Also, oddly, being in a completely dark room knowing that you are supposed to be alone, but being perfectly aware that you are not. Bottom-line, I'm afraid of the dark

I'm guessing you knew they were mexican by the sombreros? ;)
Roaches as a whole are pretty gross... *shudder*

DonnaKay! I didn't know you were from Up North... Those pictures were "pre digital" since that Explorer was 3 cars ago and the canoe was before Kayaks. (I'm so not a scrap booker so my photos from that era are piled in boxes in various parts of the house) Someday I plan to look through them and sort them

Another fear is snakes and I'm not fond of big spiders...I never kill spiders. (I call hubby). When I was single, I would move to another room in the house whenever I spotted a spider in my bedroom. (luckily I have a 3 bedroom house

Oh and I'm afraid of McCaws. I had one "chase" me in a restaurant in Honduras. That was one mean looking bird....

OMG, me, too. it was a long time ago, but I'll never forget it. The only bridge between Tulsa, OK and Corpus that really, really frightened me.

the dark, inside or outside, alone or not.

And heights, it give me vertigo.

So lemme get this straight. There's a whole subculture out there on youtube with people just filming themselves going over bridges and through tunnels? COOL!!! I'm a geek for stuff like that. However, if you already have a dislike of bridges, you probably don't want to watch this.

I don't tell people anymore what I'm deathly afraid of. Because then they find a way to put one in front of me just to be funny. Don't mind snakes or spiders or mice or rats. Let's just say it's a certain insect....ugh just thinking about it gives me the willies. Crappity crap. :x
I don't like to drive over wooden bridges, rickety ones.
And the older I get, the more a-skeeridy of stuff I get.
