Scratch soon off that comment and I'll agree. India isn't much on safety standards both for their products or workers. Tata is far off from ever designing a vehicle that could be imported legally into the US. They are attempting to purchase european companies and form partnerships with others, but even with that assistance that tin can garbage won't be in the US any time soon. Actually there are a number of Indian companies that produce "vehicles" the get excellent mileage.pair8head wrote:I believe that one day soon they will be made available in the US

The idea is great but as UpstateNYPH said the auto makers have such a vested interest in gas that is will be bought up and shelved as soon as it is ready. Also there needs to be some built in obsolesce for them to make any money off of it, which was their biggest money maker in the early days.
"The most aggravating thing about the younger generation is that I no longer belong to it." - Albert Einstein
The automakers do not care what propels their vehicles. If they general public would buy enough vehicles run on hamster power they would make them. Gas/electric/air they do not care. They just want to sell cars.
There are not electric vehicles all over the place because the battery technology is expensive and inefficient. Tesla has a roadster available for $100k. The body costs $30k the mechanicals and powerplant $70k. Do the math, the gasoline engine is much cheaper than the electric battery bank and motors. Even that Toyota Prius has problems selling since there are no more tax credits for that model because of the price.
