Tornados in Virginia
Prayers and Phin Power for our Virginia friends tonight.
Three tornados went through VA: a major one in Suffolk and two others in Colonial Heights and Brunswick County. No deaths reported, thank God, but over 200 injuries and major damage. The little down of Driver has been "demolished"..... I used to work in Suffolk and have a lot of friends there....
BNers, are you okay??

OMG, have you seen the damage in Suffolk??
How was no one killed?? There are no storm shelters down there; the water table is too high. Most everything is built on a slab.
The guardian angels were working overtime.......

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

Re: Tornados in Virginia
According to today's news, there have been no deaths, and only minor injuries. The major problem (but minor in terms of human lives) is all the damage to cars in the parking lot of the shopping center in Colonial Heights (the Colonial Heights tornado is the only one of the three that I know much about at this point). Cars literally got stacked up on each other and windows blown out all over the place!ragtopW wrote:Aunty flew in today.. She is OK.. But.. And ah, the stories I could tell about landing at the airport that's 20 miles away from where the tornado was touching down at my landing time. Everyone is okay, but BOY HOWDY was I glad to be in a nice BIG Boeing 737 on that leg of the trip instead of one of those little commuter planes!

The creepy part was when the captain came on the intercom and basically said, "everybody including flight attendants needs to sit down and buckle up tight NOW." That was when I made sure I had my license in my pocket so that my body could be identified if it were flung from the plane in a horriffic crash (I have always been a "worst case scenario" kind of girl!) and made sure my carryon bag had identification on it as well so that I could retrieve my scepter!

PHINPOWER and love to those affected by the tornado(s). May you all heal fast and get your homes and businesses fixed quickly.
When things like this happen, I always wonder about the dogs, cats, horses, deer, etc......?????

**shudder** Looking at some of the video shot of the clouds rotating and the funnel forming.... I remember seeing clouds just like that when I lived in that area, and preparing to run for a ditch near the house, kids under my arms (we were living in a mobile home waiting to move into our house)...

Hey pholks, just a quick fly by to say Thanks for all of the phin power and prayers.
Thankfully all of my family is doing OK here in Suffolk. I live about 3 miles from the hospital and I will say that what we witnessed and experienced during the hours of 3-6pm yesterday was an experience like none other. (i am still running on overdrive) Fortunately we had no damage in our neighborhood, just one lone tree snapped in half. We happen to live on the west side of rt 10 and the path of the tornado was following the east side. My brother, his wife and dogs do however live in the area of the golf course that had extensive damage. Luckily by midnight he was able to sneek into the neighborhood and "check to see if his house was still standing." He was happy to report that his 3 dogs were safe and still in the home which had sustained some damage. The house behind him and two doors over were litterally gone!
(He & dogs stayed with us last night and his wife was on the other side of I58 with her sister-they have yet seen each other since yesterday morn but are in touch.) We are still waiting on the official word that residents can come in and get clothes, etc and start the cleanup. Please continue as I know you will, to send those prayers out. My children go to school with some of those that did lose everything.
For those others affected by this, our prayers are with you all.
