Often it's not what you say, but how you say it... There's a big difference between "I'd love to see some changes in the set list" and "I demand set list changes, and I'm entitled to them".....

Critical words are tolerated.... Look around and you'll see plenty of them.... "demands" usually don't go over very well.....
Again (yet again!) SGH... you nailed it. [smilie=gt-happyup.gif] [smilie=gt-happyup.gif]

I just don't get why he resorts to some of the covers that he does. I get the "hits" portion completely. Also, it seems that when he does pull out a rare one, I'm scratching my head at the selection. It baffles me why party, up-beat, classic fun songs like Manana and Barometer Soup are never played...or fan favorites like Tin Cup Chalice or Havana Daydreamin aren't staples every night. And we are subjected to Brown Eyed girl to eternity.

A lot of people who come to the big venue Buffett shows do not know the vast body of work that Jimmy does. However, people know the covers, and they know the hits, so IMHO, that is why we hear a lot of covers during these big stadium shows. I think if us dihearts want a show that will lean less on the hits and covers and more on the older stuff then we need to be lucky enough to see a gig where he is playing a smaller venue such as a Margaritaville Cafe where he can be more flexible. If he were to do the obscure stuff at the stadium shows he would probably be playing to a house that is not even half full. Jimmy is not only a good musician. He is also a very good business man, and in this case, the music and the business interchange, and he knows what will work.

Maybe he enjoys playing them? Just a thought...

Absolutely! It is pretty obvious that Jimmy is still loving his summer job after so many years. He has paid his dues. He does not need or have to tour every year at this point in his career. He seems to genuinely appreciate the fans, and he enjoys the music. He can play whatever he wants and should play whatever he wants.

Why don't we all get together, and rent a venue. Then hire Jimmy to play the songs we want. :D :D

Does it really matter whether Jimmy changes the set list or not?? Isn't the reason that we all go to his shows.............to enjoy the company of other's like us, and to listen to a great performer and song writer. We are all entitled to a good quality show for the hard earned money that we spend, I agree..................but honestly................have any of you ever really been to a "bad" Buffett show??? After all, I would much rather pay alot more to see Jimmy, than most of the so called performers and song writers out there today. I'm not "bashing" anyone - I'm just kinda throwing my opinion out there. And by the way.....................I actually really like his beer, regardless of what kind of bottle it comes in.

I would love to see some different (aka better) songs in the set list. But that isn't really going to happen. He's playing some different ones this go round but overall...

I've stopped going to see him. Last time I saw him was Jazz Fest 2002 I think. I couldn't even begin to think about affording to go to Margaritaville last night (back in 1989 Mick Jagger said Nobody pays twenty bucks to get into a club and with exception to about $50, I'm not spending $200 for the same songs again).

And I'm not going to Jazz Fest Saturday or at all.

So I have no expectations. I can sit back and say Oh god he played BEG AGAIN!!!??? What a drag...and so on.

But I really don't care. It's just fun to stir things up here and there, see if people truly are interested in hearing the same covers again and again and again year in year out or if they'd actually like to hear something different. And it seems most people are content to hear the same covers over and over and over while still going over and over and over expecting either the same or something different and...still getting the same.

Last I knew Jimmy wasn't a classic rock station playing the same 22 songs every other hour. But maybe he is - his own.

I'm going to add my two cents here. I like Jimmy and most of the songs he plays at the concerts. I mainly just know the songs he plays at concerts and even though I like them it would be nice to hear the new stuff(to me) I've never heard before.

Last year I went to two concert sand this year so far 1 concert. I've got tickets for GW's and plan on seeing Jimmy in Hawaii/Australia/Tahiti if my schedule allows.

An Australian trip to see Jimmy is an extremely expensive to just see a concert. Air alone will probably run $2000+, but if I can combine that trip with my other interests then seeing Jimmy is icing on the cake.

So I guess what I'm trying to say in a long round about way is that the concert is just a small reason I'll go see Jimmy. For me its more about meeting new friends , tailgating and travel. Jimmy no matter what he plays is just icing on the cake. but he has to play Son of A Son of A Sailor! :)

Been going to concerts since the early 90's, and over the years I've learned he's pretty much going to play the same 12-15 songs every year. But it's always the other 12 or so songs that change from year to year that make the show special every year. Let's face it, this is the way it is, and I still enjoy those same 12-15 songs every year, (except for maybe CIP, and one or two others, but that's OK, the other 25 make up for them)

While this subject comes up a lot, my basic view is that when I leave a concert, I might say I wish he had done this or that, then I look around and everyone is happy. In today's world that is a good day, and I thank JB for his abiltiy to give people a good time. So as I am leaving and I try to remember how fortunate I was to be at such a great event, set lists at that point are secondary.

Although I agree with that statement, not everyone does. Some people go to the shows with an expectation of hearing a bunch of songs they haven't heard before, some people no longer have that expectation and no longer go to shows, somepeople accept what it is. I'm sure the number of "bad" shows people have been to is small, but I'm equally confident that if you ask everyone who went to a show if they wish he had done even just one thing differently, they would all say yes.

I know what I'm getting into when I go. I know that there will be some songs I've not heard live before, but I also know that I will here a lot of the same songs that he has played in earlier stops on the tour. If I know that, why do i go to so many shows? To enjoy the company of other's like me. I pick a destination concert out of the schedule (this year is Alpine) and I go to meet people I've come to know through BN, and I go to any number of more "local" concerts to re-meet old friends. (And yes I mean re-meet. I'm not good with names to begin with, factor in everyone here's got their "real" name and their "BN" name, and swirl that in a bath of alcohol, and there is very little I can keep track of by the end of the day.

And as for picking up on sarcasm in a post, I've noticed that, when just written, and not spoken with intonation and inflection, sarcasm can very easily be mistaken as belief. (Tho the emoticons help... )

the last time we saw Elton John.. He did both "mona Lisa's "
a twenty minute version at that..
Kenny What's his name?? no Songs from his
Old Blue Chair"

But Jimmy?? until it gets to be the Yellow album and gone..
I am Happy..

He played it at Shea Stadium in 2003. I've seen him probably 8 or 9 times, that's the only time I remember hearing Rosalita.
