My tax rebate has arrived! $600! KA-CHING! Let's see that's about
10 tankfuls of gas, or 30 cases of beer, or 40 bottles of rum, or 600
McDonald's double-cheeseburgers, or 120 lap-dances.

most states claim that any income tax refund is income the next year... how they manage to get that bit of stupidity past a court challenge..chippewa wrote:I saw on the morning news that it won't have any impact on next year's federal return, but no state has decided yet on how to treat the rebate.~ Parrot Bay ~ wrote:A funny thing most people don't know about these rebates is...
most state's will be taxing it as income.
Michigan's pockets have been empty for some time....I'm sure they want a piece of everybody's rebate. Plus, our governor's in the hospital and I'm not sure what kind of health care she has.RinglingRingling wrote:most states claim that any income tax refund is income the next year... how they manage to get that bit of stupidity past a court challenge..chippewa wrote:I saw on the morning news that it won't have any impact on next year's federal return, but no state has decided yet on how to treat the rebate.~ Parrot Bay ~ wrote:A funny thing most people don't know about these rebates is...

I remember about 10 years ago, the State of MT wanted to collect tax on a refund I'd had the year before I left. Figured on what I was making, they could pucker up and kiss my furry red butt..chippewa wrote:Michigan's pockets have been empty for some time....I'm sure they want a piece of everybody's rebate. Believe me, we'll be paying for it somehow, it was all borrowed money to begin with.~ Parrot Bay ~ wrote:A funny thing most people don't know about these rebates is...

It all depends on where you shop. A $5 lap dance can be REALLY GOOD,blackjack wrote:you also didn't say anything about REALLY GOOD lap dances. So true. This rebate reminds me of the union contracts we used to work out. We offered a small % increase, reduce the insurance benefits and throw a $1000 signing bonus out. When the new contract took effect each person got ~$560 after deductions, they would buy a new TV and then complain about how they got screwed for the next 3 years. rinse repeat. This stimulus won't even be a blip on the radar. The price of energy is the problem right now. Alternative fueled power plants and opening up Alaska for oil production would help reduce the upward price pressure which would help the economy overall.ScarletB wrote:Believe me, we'll be paying for it somehow, it was all borrowed money to begin with.~ Parrot Bay ~ wrote:A funny thing most people don't know about these rebates is...
