Yes but there is a lot of hidden fees in one of those...

I have the Mr. T voice in my Tom Tom. He gets p*** when I dont go the way he wants me to.
"Turn around sucka before I jump out of this machine and get you!!!"

I feel really stupid asking this, but does it really say that? If it does, I'm buying that one.

The only cautionary mention I would make about GPS units is that if you don't keep them updated they can end up taking you the long way around.

There was an article in either the Washington Post or the Boston Globe several weeks ago about the pitfalls of the GPS. The biggest one being that many cities have multiple streets with the same name. For example in Boston there is a street on Beacon Hill (the nicest area in downtown Boston) with the exact same name as a street in Roxbury (perhaps the worst area of the city). Cities are going through a process of renaming, but it will take a little while.

Do you get the free upload to girlfriend 3.0?

Just got the latest issue of Consumer Reports in the mail today, and one of the articles is rating GPS devices.

OK so after a "mapquest trip" to Seattle.. (and a 30 or so mile detour)
I went to the Dallas Metro area last week
I broke down and rented a unit.. I cannot believe how nice it was.
Yes I can read a map. But not during the afternoon tour of the Downtown Dallas route to Waco.

those people drive crazy..
I spotted a Garvin nuvi 1300 (not yet out)
with the widescreen and text to speech (tells you which street to turn on)
that I like.. I will look around and choose, but I am in for one soon.
I cannot believe how much stress the unit took from me..
no they are not perfect.. But a worthwhile investment.
thanks for all of the info..

WHAT?? Dallas drivers crazy? You mean you can't handle someone going 80mph with a cellphone in one hand and a cheeseburger in the other tailgating you and then whipping around to pass?

My bank is going to send me a Garmin 205W.
I don't know that I will get much use out of it around home, but it might come in handy on roadtrips.

Just so long as no one here says "GPS 'system'" then everyone is doing pretty good.
Ha ha.

I rented one to get me to Treasure Island from Ft Myers and it made the trip much more relaxing. When you travel alone you can't read a map and drive as well unless you have a death wish. It worked great except I think once or twice it did take me the long way around but I got where I was going so it was all good. I'd rent on again in a heartbeat.

We used to use Tom's phone, but Google maps updated and now it doesn't work as well as it used to. We may have to buy a separate GPS once we start traveling again.

We had one in a rental car in our old home town and No Parrot amused us all by progamming the destination and then going by a different route, just to screw it up. "She" began to sound annoyed after a while!
