Ive been to lots of concerts and worked at Nissan Pavilion (2007) and GREATWOODS (2006) and it seems like the country bands play a lot less then the normal rock bands.
Kenny Chesney- 1.5 hours and done (saw hime 5 times)
Toby Keith- 1.5 to 1.45 hours
Brad Pasiely 1.5 hours
Alan Jackson 1.3 hours
Buffett- 120 mintues (his show lengths are fine)
Rock bands set lengths
Roger Waters- over two hours
Rush- Over 2.5 hours (Not very good)
Black EYed Peas'- Two Hours
Tom Petty- Two Hours
I paid for kenny 4 times at foxboro and worked his once, Toby I worked two of them and paid once, and Tom petty i paid once and worked one.
They all put on great shows but they are not long peformances and I think they should be playing for two hours at least.

One thing I've noticed in the couple of times I've seen Alan Jackson is that he will play extremely abbreviated versions of some of his hits. My assumption is that he does it just so the fans can say/feel like he played them. In one concert, I believe he played 4+ songs that were nothing more than the first verse and one chorus and then ended the song totalling maybe a minute each.
I guess I have mixed feelings about it. It seems crappy to get a budget version of a song that I might really want to hear, but at the same time, if I can get an additional few songs I want to hear because of this, maybe it's a good way to do it.

Or Bruce Springsteen's? I'm also curious to know why Rush's 2.5 set length is "Not very good". If it was an "evening with Rush" (no opening act), I'd say it was pretty good especially considering the price of concert tix these days.

These are bands I have seen.
I worked Rush but i'm not a fan of them.
In 2006 worked 30 concerts and paid for a few outside Greatwoods and last year worked like 12 or 13 shows in VA.
BTW When keith Urban came he put on a great show at the Verzion Center. He is one of the great guitariest todays. He also played for over two hours.

The one time I saw Bruce the show had to be at least three hours. One super long set, followed by a six song encore, followed by two more encores of 2-3 songs. It was awesome.
Grateful Dead shows were easily 2.5 hours. First set would be just about an hour, 1/2 hour break, second set a good 1.5 hours plus an encore. That spoiled me. Now, any concert under two hours I feel cheated. I read reviews of concerts that were 70, 80 minutes. I can understand if it is a multi-bill show or a festival, but if I'm going to see a specific headliner who has 2-3 opening acts, let them have the short sets. Last time I saw Dylan, he had Jr Brown, Jimmie Vaughn and a gospel group all do opening sets. they lasted 30 minutes each. Dylan himself played close to two hours.

Bruce had always played long sets until last year. When I saw him in Madison Square Garden he only played 2 hours 15 minutes. For a lot of bands that would be a long show, for Bruce I felt like things were just getting warmed up and all of a sudden it was over.

Most of the country artists I've seen have opening acts, so I guess that counts toward show length. The first time I saw Kenny Chesney both Rascal Flatts AND Keith Urban had opening sets. Then KC played about and hour and a half after that. I felt I got my money's worth.

I feel like it's the same with a lot of the younger acts as well. Jimmy Eat World came to my school (as the headliner) and played maybe an hour. I saw Maroon 5 and the Hives last fall, and they were also no more than a little over an hour.

Funny how times change. You would think with CD sales in a tailspin, and ticket prices going up, artists would "try" harder to please the fans in the seats.
One artist who I have lost interest in is Stevie Nicks. I am a huge fan, but I have seen her set go from 15 songs, to 11. AND it's the same 11 songs with the same arrangements for the past 3 years.
