Triple Crown

Post by BottleofRum »

3 weeks away, can Big Brown do it? he will be in a longer race against horses who are familer wit the size of the track, but he to the Triple Crown winners. BIG BROWN is a horse of a lifetime....a rare won who knows what winning and losing is.

30 years since affirmed did it. I think he can, but the belmont's the long one, and I remember years ago funny cide (i think) was up for the triple crown had a huge lead and you could see him start to look around--"Hey, where'd all my fellow horses go?"--and he lost by a head

Barring any problems (there are many) I believe he can and will win it.

Considering he's undefeated and has won every race by an average of 8 lengths (most of them running away) I'd say YEP.

If the field for the Belmont is as weak as his other two races, he should be able to coast into an easy victory. I don't see anything special in this horse, he just lucked out and ran into a year of extreme weakness. It is a longer race might be fun to watch but there is no money to be made betting it.

personally I'm glad to see one horse stand out and shine so far above the rest!!!! In the past that is usually how it went. Nowadays, with modern breeding practices- everyone using the same bloodlines, artificial insemination, flushing eggs and embryo transfers, etc- it's like we're all riding the same horse. I think this is a problem for the entire horse industry and I'm sure the thoroughbreds are seeing their share of it. Besides if the rest of the field is really THAT poor quality, then I guess Big Brown's breeders, trainers and owners did something right and that's what the game is about!!! Go Big Brown!!!!!

I'm a bit confused here. What are you referring to with this?

The Thoroughbred industry doesn't allow breeders to use artificial breeding techniques of any type that I know of. Did you by any chance mean some other area, like Show Horses etc?

I think it will the first time he has run a mile and a half. Plus he will be up against other horses who have run that length before which is what usually ends triple crwon hopes.

Of any horse that has made it this far in recent memory he has the best chance. It looked like he was just out for a casual stride on Saturday.

The Belmont has been a major dream-killer due to its mile and a half length ...
but this year there are three weeks to rest up instead of two, so that may help his chances.
I think it would be cool to finally have another triple crown winner - 30 years is a long time to wait.

Yes and a Triple Crown Winner would be good for the entire industry.

I thought there was always 3 weeks between the Preakness and the Belmont?

I live about 6 or 7 miles from Belmont Park and I've been there twice, neither time for the Belmont Stakes.

Oops, my bad!!! I ride reining and cutting horses (quarter horses) and that kind of stuff runs rampant in our industry-to the detriment of the breed, in my opinion. I should have done my homework first!!!! I just ASSUMED that they did it with the Thorooughbreds also. You know what they say when you assume!

No worries, it's just that I've talked to others that told me they knew for a fact that cloning / artificial insemination etc, was being done and I was ready to explain how it's not allowed all over again.

Back in the 1980's, I used to go every year with a big group to party on the infield at the Preakness. In fact that's how I recruited a few people over to Jimmy Buffett ..... I told them a Buffett tailgate was exactly like the Preakness infield/Mardi Gras/NASCAR infield (lotsa beer and boobies).

I always wondered if the Kentucky Derby and Belmont races had the same huge drunken infield parties as the Preakness, or was that more of a Baltimore thing?

footnote: Just as I did with Buffett, once the 1990s came along ... I migrated to the stands for the races/shows ... the infield became too much for my taste, particular when it rains.

I was at Churchill Downs last month for opening day, a week before the derby...and next week I am going to Pimlico a week after the Preakness..... bad timing :-? but still cool to see races at both places.

I'm on the Big Brown Bandwagon!!

I'm thinking that since they worked him 1/8th mile in the morning before the Preakness and he didn't even look tired at the end of the race, the mile and a half track should be a breeze

This coming weekend Big Brown goes for it.

Last weekend we, DrunkPirate66, and I along with a few friends went to Pimlico, I tell you - they make these tracks look much nicer on TV. To say the least Pimlico is not in a great neighborhood. :-? but once inside the place is awesome. So much history.
