It was a cute book---I think we have 5-8th graders that would enjoy it.
Think I could convince my school district to buy 30 copies so I could spend the rest of the school year teaching a Buffett book and playing Buffett music as a supplemental activity??
My daughter had a teacher as a high school freshman who based many of his lesions on Buffett. He teaches Honors Geography as a elective so he could teach whatever he wanted. Of course, my daughter was his favorite student! You out there lurking, Dave?

My Take

Post by catsway »

Okay, I finished the book. Definately not beaches, boats and bars. I will return to Randy Wayne White's Doc Ford books for that. But it is a cute story. As I was getting close to the end, I could see this coming out as a Disney animated feature similar to "Finding Nemo". Maybe this will be JB's jump to a screenplay.
I agree with everyone that this is a story for pre-teens. Our daughter is a therapist and works with kids that age. I recommended that she check it out for them. It does have some redeeming moral values.

Maybe I should hand it to my son to read before I read it, since I'm in the middle of another book right now.

What's wrong with adults reading cute, happy, funny stories? Do they all have to be about murder?

He put a bunch of little references in there about his music that only Parrotheads would pick up..."Volcano Cake," "Shark of Land," "hula, hula," etc.

It was a light quick read with very short chapters, which I LOVE. I enjoyed reading it. :D

Did I say there was anything wrong with adults reading it? I'd just like to hear the opinion of someone who doesn't automatically run out and buy something, good, bad or indifferent, just because Jimmy Buffett's name is on it.

I wasn't directing that directly at you, Larry. :D Just out to the general public. I usually only try to argue with you about LandShark!

It's not really an argument when you're starting with an incorrect assumption. Landshark is not beer.

How about all the references to the young star who "shouldn't treat her fans like that?!" I thought that was really great.

Okay, then I won't tell you what I think of it!

Heck, y'all, it's got Jimmy Buffett's name on it!!! Of course I bought it, or rather hubby did, and we're both reading it. The man's got a following, after all... Aren't we supposed to follow? 8)

I finished it in a few days.. I found it to be a very funny story.. It read to be almost script like.. Jimmy did a great job writing this, I was able to picture everything as it was happening.. My girlfriend is reading it now and is enjoying it as well....

Jimmy won't get enough followers to drink tainted LandShark.
Do they make margarita-flavored Kool Aid?
