As I was getting close to the end, I could see this coming out as a Disney animated feature similar to "Finding Nemo". Maybe this will be JB's jump to a screenplay.
I agree with everyone that this is a story for pre-teens. Our daughter is a therapist and works with kids that age. I recommended that she check it out for them. It does have some redeeming moral values.
OK, "Swine Not?" is just a fun, quick read. Nothing more, nothing less. I still think "Where is Joe Merchant?" is my favorite JB novel. I'll also agree that Randy Wayne White's Doc Ford novels are excellent mysteries for BNers searching for a good "beach book" this summer.....

it is what it is.... a children's book.
Maybe "cute" isn't the correct word for the book, but like Jen said, "It is a children's story."
I haven't finished the book yet, but I have read the first 10 chapters, and I am enjoying this book. For obvious reasons I have the audio book. The introduction is read by Jimmy, and the rest of the book is read by someone who is equally an excellent reader.
No, cute is not the word for the book. I think fun or entertaining would be words to describe this book. This book is for kids and for adults who have not lost the humorous kid inside.
Here we are, maybe it's because in spite of all the work we do
It's the child in us we really value
Here we are, with our fins up and our feathers flashing
Here we are, with our coconut shell brassieres chanting

I'm probably going to pass on getting this book. Maybe. I dunno. I have no urge to get it. In fact, about as much urge as I have to get Scenes You Know By Heart.
Swine Not? is #6 on the NYT Fiction list today. Pretty impressive. Especially for a kids book. Wouldn't be at all surprised if it got made into a movie like Hoot.
#90 overall on Amazon, which is also great. Proud to see my book Key Weird (which is NOT a kids book ) is still listed in the Swine Not? Customers Who Bought.. Key Weird is way back on page 8, but I'll take that on a Jimmy Buffett bestseller any day.

Page 8 is still quite an accomplishment! Congrats......
my wife found it for $12 at costco and picked it up for me before I even knew it existed
got around to reading it and it was pretty enjoyable - fast moving read from the perspective of a kid and a pig - i liked the dual view
lots of references to pop culture and some well painted scenes
there were a couple hickups in the flow of the book, but a fun little read that i'm sure kids would probably like a little more than the adult crowd
one thing that did bug me has to do with editing when he was describing the soccer game - something like DC United came out blazing and scored a quick goal - then the whole crowd sat bored for another 113 (or something like that) minutes until NY scored the equalizer
unless somethings changed or i'm a little hungover, i thought soccer matches were only 90 minutes? - they framed it to be 2 hrs of play
or maybe they just meant 113 minutes of real time as opposed to game time - which would fit
i dunno ...... stupid little thing, but enough to make me pause the flow of the story and think about detail
The audio CDs were a tiny bit different than the book and it was supposed to be unabridged. The reader just used to different terms, or the book I got was not edited like the audio was.
Their house was referred to as the fish bowl instead of fish tank and in the book it says something out of Alice In Wonderland, but the audio didn't say that.
I don't remember what the audio has about the one hundred and thirteen minutes...
