Sir, you opened this can of worms so I'm going to respond. Sorry officer, but I just can't compare police officers to firefighters. I'm glad we have both in my town but they definitely have a different attitude with the public here. When interacting with firefighters, they are warm, friendly, helpful and very service oriented. The police are all business, they are in and out of a problem, with an air of superiority that comes across as self important. Perhaps these differences are just a reflection of their different job descriptions, or maybe just an example of my perception of my local law enforcement and fire department. But in my experiences positive people skills go along way in getting the publics praise.

Until your house is on fire and they break out all of your windows and rip your roof to shreads.
Police on the other hand, never get any of the praise, catch all of the complaints, and usually are the FIRST to arrive at the fire!
Police get made fun of when they grab a coffee at the local donut shop, but nobody says anything about the 7 course meals that the firemen eat.....EVERY NIGHT!
Now don't get me wrong, my brother is a Chicago fireman, and I love him to death, but the praise is overrated. He sits in the firehouse all day and WAITS for jobs. Police are out there LOOKING for crime their entire shift.
Oh......and God forbid a police officer stops into a store on a break to pick something up. Nobody says a word when the firemen go grocery shopping for 1 or 2 hours......ON DUTY.
I got a million more examples.....
I just hope Jimmy takes care of the police too.........
End rant......
No offense intended, but I hope you'll see a therapist about your issues, if you aren't already.

I am offended on a personal level by your comments. I have as much respect for the men and women who take on the job of law enforcement as I do for Firefighters. As well as EMT's and other people who do this country a great service in other areas.
This thread was what it was, someone reporting how Jimmy shows his support for firefighters. Nothing more, nothing less.

I am usually a very neutral person on this board, but I am going to break that cycle and say you are officially a jerk.
When did I ever post that Jimmy was giving fireman discounts and not police officers? I am sure that he made the rule to include all public safety service employees.
Oh and when that cop shows up first on the scene to your house on fire, tell me after if you will still be happy he is there first when you are screaming from a 3rd story bedroom window for help and he has no LADDER, self contained breathing apparatus, or fire hoses to come get your snotty ass.
I was a fireman for six years, and as any other fireman can share with you non this board, we DO NOT wait around and eat all day waiting for a fire/call. There is multiple loads of training, equipment maintenance, fire inspections etc etc etc.
You sir, are a disgrace to the public safety community. I applaud your efforts as a police officer and thank you for helping our communities, but your views on other members of public safety are SEVERELY skewed.
Dont let the door hit you on the way out. Now please, can we return this to the happy thread I started? Thank you.

I was dining at Outback Steakhouse with my children a few months ago and there were about 8 police officers there having dinner on their breaks.
I explained to my children that firefighters AND police officers take very good care of all of us...with very little monetary compensation in return. They both do very hard and dangerous jobs and we should always respect them and thank them.
Then I decided to stop their waitress and buy them their dinners. EVERY single one of them came over to our table to thank me and they gave my children honorary police badges and were very grateful. I thanked them for their service. I was happy to do it and I thought it would teach my children a valuable lesson.
When I got the bill, 20% was taken off the bill. I questioned the waitress and she said that the police AND firefighters always get a 20% discount for their service to our community.
BACK to the happy thread.

Thanks Cindy. I was only telling the story, however, so that the upset Police Officer would understand that people try to take care of them too.
Outback has the 20% off deal and I'm sure so do many others.
I just feel like police officers, firefighters, and also teachers are in their professions because most of them love what they do. They are professions that take a special person. They are certainly not in it for the money.
Because of the service they provide, I feel like people who are willing and able to give back, should. I also wanted to teach a lesson to my children.

by which particular harbor?
As a fellow police officer I am deeply offended by all this...well, not really. I just wanted to hear my self type. Down here in the south we get along nicely with our fellow hose holders...we all treat eachother with respect b/c each of us has our positives...they carry big hoses and we carry big guns...
now, about those discounts...where can I get a good discount on a donut?
