I took this photo this afternoon. ALL the gas stations along California highway 395 had the same price.

That's still cheaper than here in Canada we're paying $1.32 per litre and that's 4.9967 per gallon for us and that's for regular. The price of Gas is total absurd.

I prefer the metric system...however no matter how you look at it the price of gas is absolutely disgusting!!!

I think that hearing things are just as bad...or worse...in Canada makes me feel slightly better about what's up in the US...but not really. No one should be getting the shaft forced that hard....not here, not Canada...hell, not even in France!!

If they were trying to get us to drive less...if they were trying to save the environment..that'd be one thing....but they ain't!!

they're justing trying to screw us.....guess they ain't trying....they're succeeding!!

But I can't get the keets from school on a bicycle...guess we could walk...so sad, so maddening...so damBed frustrating  :x  :x  :x

At least I'm relieved that the oil companies profits aren't considered to be "excessive" in any way........ :o  [smilie=grrrrrr.gif]

Years ago I seem to remember those same oil companies saying things like "gas needs to reach around $2/gallon" for it to become "economically feasible" to explore for new reserves of oil and alternative energy sources. What are you guys waiting for now?[smilie=hello.gif]

Yeah, the worse thing about these prices is the simple fact that they will go higher with little hope for any real change on the immediate horizon. [smilie=noeyedear-shrugging.gif]

Ya...it's sad that I'm sitting here thinking, "Man, I wish gas would go back in the $2-$3 dollar range"...what happened to the days when it was ridiculous for gas to be over $1.30?

Are you old enough to remember when truckers used to drive side by side down the interstate at 55 MPH all the way to Washington DC, backing up traffic for miles upon miles to protest high fuel prices? What happened to them? Why is there no out cry?

Every level of govt, local to feds, view us as thier income stream, not the people they are elected to serve. Big business donates millions to elected officials. We have the best govt money can buy..... and it's on the breaking back of the American family, being crushed under huge financial pressure. Where is the outrage? Why are we so quiet?

Get a copy (DVD) of, "Who Killed The Electric Car." You'll find documented proof that big oil, the auto makers and govt are all in this together. Remember, we are only an income stream to state govts. I live in California where sales tax is approx 8%. We have a huge defficit. The more essentials cost, the more $$$$ goes to the state to mis manage.

That makes me think things aren't as bad now as they were then. High? yes, but I think less of a financial strain as it was then. That was the 70's and I remember that most of that decade as being under a dark cloud. Then again, I do live in New York, the inspiration for the Death Wish movies.

I miss the 70's too. Remember the homes being forclosed in record numbers? Remember that national pride we as Americans felt as our dollar sank and intrest rates sky rocketed? Remember the hostages being held in Iran? Remember when Ronald Regan was elected and the first thing he did was break up all the business monopolies to make the cost of goods and services fair for the American consumer? Those were the days.

The price of gasoline has long ago surpassed the STUPID level.

ONCE AGAIN I say
BUILD MORE G.D. REFINERIES, DRILL FOR OIL HERE AND THE ENVIRONMENTALIST NUT JOBS BE DAMNED!!!

Build more nuclear plants
Expand coal mining.
If the supply goes UP, the price will go DOWN! (DUH)!

DRILL IN THE A.N.W.R.
We're talking about an area the size of South Carolina, and doing the actual drilling in an area the size of my friggin' back yard!
The Caribou will just have to cope.

It's obvious we're not getting any sympathy from the rag heads in the middle east, so we need to take matters into our own hands.
I'm tired of the talk of alternative energy sources.
My car runs on GASOLINE, not switch grass or wood chips.
We need SHORT TERM solutions, not lawn mowers with doors shoved down our throats by 2025. (When I'll be so damned old I'll have my driver's license taken away from me anyway).

We go through this every year at Memorial Day. The "summer driving season" b.s. is always the excuse for raising fuel prices even higher.
People need to start taking their vacations in the winter time, not in June, July, & August when they KNOW fuel prices will skyrocket even more.
For those with kids in school who can only take vacations in the summer time, I say this (and it won't win me a lot of friends, but I don't give a rat's rear end):
If you can afford to take your kids on vacation, you can afford to fill up your gas tank.

I feel sorriest for the people who live in the rural areas where there is no public transportation available and they HAVE to drive their cars into town for groceries, work, etc.

Hopefully the oil companies will use some of their profits for more exploration, drilling, refining, etc.

AND WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH SUSPENDING THE OBSCENE GASOLINE TAX, or at least reducing it, for Christ's sake?

I just thank God that I'm still able to work, and work some occasional overtime to help pay for some of this crap. Others aren't quite so lucky.
Retirees on fixed incomes and people who live in the rural areas are hit hardest. Nobody seems to give a damn about them. Not our elected officials, anyway.

when oil hit the $80 range/barrel the cost in current dollars was equivalent to the price in 1973. Granted, the economy is supposedly less dependent upon oil-based products/energy due to efficiencies, technology advancements, and the like.. but I don't think we've improved to the tune of 63% more efficient. In 1973-1975 the economy went into the dumper when the prices spiked after the 1st and 2nd embargoes. Evidently that lesson wasn't learned.

Of course, Shrub changing the way oil was traded, from utility to commodity probably didn't help. Makes me wonder what Heartless Dick and the oil company execs discussed in those meetings right after they took office. "Executive Privilege" seems to ring a bit hollow right about now.
