Where is Joe Merchant?

Post by coastierox »

The first time I read it I thought this would be a killer movie, then when I read JB's autobiography he mentioned scouting for filming locations and then I never heard anything more. Anybody out there know anything about this?

It was one of those things that never took off. The project was on the table for a LONG time, but never happened, which is a shame.

This is JB's best novel to date and, yes, would have made an excellent mystery movie.......too bad it never materialized. :o

My husband doesn't read much beyond historical novels.....he loved Joe Merchant. I loved it too. We both thought it would be a great movie. :D
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

Personally, I'd prefer to see "Take Another Road - the story" and "Salty Piece of Land" made into a movie. I remember thinking as I read it I'd love to see it made, and have even thought of actors I'd like to see in roles....There's only one actress to play Cleopatra, and that would be Lena Horne, the guy that played Mr Eko on LOST would make a great Solomon. The only character I can't make up my mind on is Tully. I've thought of a few actors, but none of them are a perfect fit. Jimmy of course has to play Willie Singer.

Hey C-Dawg,

Funny thing is when I read ASPOL I constantly found myself picturing Jerry Jeff Walker as Tully....... :o

He's too old for the part now. Tully is 40 when he embarks on his adventure. LIke I said before, many that could do it, but none that come to mind that are a prefect fit. I almost think they'd have to cast someone new.
As for Sammy Coconuts, Glenn Shadix, the actor who played the medium in Beetlejuice would be a good fit Image
I could go on and on on this subject.....would love to see it made

I thought he used the "scouting locations for a movie" line as a way to gain special access/priviliges to places. People may not recognize his name, but if he's scouting for a movie he get's good treatment.
